Gelert just got the 'all clear' from the vet, we don't need to see him again :D Gelert was supposed to have his nail cut right back, as the toe had set slightly twisted and it was sticking out a bit, but he changed his mind about this, and said he was very pleased with how well it was doing. We can now walk on pavements and start to let him off the lead for short periods, and increase both steadily over the next month when he will be ready to start proper running. It will be so nice to get back to normal

Just how much can one small lap take?

Great news for Gelert and for you!!

What a gorgeous picture of your two   Good Luck Gelert :luck:

you've got room for more :D can never have enough fourpaws to snuggle with :huggles: great news, hope he keeps making progress :luck:

I agree..lovely picture. Good news for you all. I bet Gelert is raring to go!

That will be a problem - he's only allowed off lead at the end of the walk, once the initial excitement is over (although that might be wishful thinking that this will make any difference, as he's capable of seeing real and imaginary bunnies at any stage of his walk  ).

The bad news is that the toe was so smashed up it will probably get arthritic with age, and will probably have to be amputated in the end anyway :( but it's still better to keep it there until that point comes. :sweating:

Youch. Fred sympathises :( , he has an arthritic toe and elbow according to the vet and does limp a bit now, but he is a lot older than Gelert.

Good news for Gelert, hope he can keep his toe as long as possible.

(And get him a bioflow collar for the arthritus :b :- " )

No more lure coursing though?

I don't know  In theory yes it should be back to normal, our vet sees racing greyhounds and whippets from all over the country, has been infuriatingly reticent about the prognosis from the start, but said he should be fit for racing from mid July; on the other hand all that very tight cornering does put a strain on the toes :( . We'll see how it goes. :sweating: I wish I'd started competing with him sooner, I feel I've wasted his best years. He will be 7 in a few weeks.

:huggles: to Fred's sore toe and elbow
