Greyhounds Savage Puppy???????

yes so do i greyhounds suffer enough with trying to find homes as it is as do all breeds its ashame people have to go to such lengths to tell the world what terrible dogs they are she wasnt even there so how does she know what happened and for god sake they were muzzled :(

glad to see so many positive comments though for the greys!!!!!!!! read the comments on the story!!!!!!!!! the couple seem to be wanting publicity

well my whippet bitch jumped in with my litter of lurcher pups two years ago and killed them all, they were 4 weeks old and really healthy. Never had her do it before and she has been fine with her own pups. Dont let her near pups at all now

Read this story and thought it was rather odd and very bias.
ALL of the comments posted are worth reading.

Great, just what Greyhounds need. They have a hard enough time already.Negative publicity like this is making news out of nothing. The dogs were muzzled, which says to me,the owner was very sensible, and did not want their dogs hurting any other dogs.My Greyhound loves all dogs, big and small.

Yes a dog can still nip through a muzzle - but they can't do much real damage.

So the story is - A responsible dog owner keeps his/her dogs muzzled when off the lead in case of accidents. A small dog got nipped. Gosh, isn't it great that there are some responsible people about, if only everyone were like the owner of these greyhounds. The End

Oh, sorry, that wouldn't sell many papers would it

I know of three seperate incidents which involve people I know well who have adopted greyhounds.

They are all superb friendly soppy dogs but all will attack king charles cavalier spaniels.

One of them phoned the rescue where they had bought the dog from to tell them about the situation and the rescue centre actually asked if it was a king charles that it attacked.

Does anyone know why?

Well , you really must read right down the list of emails responding. she seems quite a charater does our Lisa , (w00t)

Good on you Jax,the voice of reason.Cav,s look like the bunnies Greyhounds are taught to chase for 3 years of their lives!!They have been trained to do this,as with all dogs,i am sure some are keener than others. As the owner, you should know your dog,and if it is keen, keep it muzzled at all times in a public place,on or off the lead. This owner was being responsible.I have been on the recieving end of a viscious dog attack, that went to court, and my dog had to be put to sleep, it,s the owners, not the dogs, that are at fault.Or in this case, not!!!

(w00t) Very interesting reading, this woman doesn't get an sympathy from me. Diane

This is quite a relevant post for me because about a month ago my whippet, Rio, was at the receiving end of some rather sharp greyhound teeth! There were a group of us with whippets and greyhounds walking in the park - the dogs were all having a fab time running around madly. Rio (who was 10 months at the time) is a very confident little chap - and friendly too - he thinks everything is just a big game - which it was, until three or four older greyhounds suddenly turned on him and began to attack! The problem was I think that he got pinned up against a fence, and whereas he could normally outrun them, he was kind of trapped and I think they just switched into prey drive mode. Most of them were muzzled - unfortunately one wasn't and she inflicted quite a bit of damage, getting Rio by the throat. Of course we broke the melee up and later the vet said he was v/ lucky as the bite was deep and just missed his jugular. THe greyhound's owner paid for the vet treatment and was very sorry and upset. I just put it down to one of those things - a combination of a feisty whippet who doesn't know when it's time to stop, an owner (me) who should have recognized the game was over and put him on the lead sooner, and over-excited greyhounds acting in a kind of pack/prey mentality - none of them had a history of that - but they were all rescues. Having said that, I don't think the attack-ee should ever be blamed for being attacked (just like it's never a child's fault for being hit) BUT at the same time, it's not exactly a story for the front page of the paper either.... I think it's up to us as responsible owners to read our dogs body language and perhaps anticipate a situation, d'you think?

Maybe you would like to ask Lisa Sargent if Greyhounds are such terrible animals why did she want to rehome one, and unfortunatley could'nt! Sounds like she has become bitter and twisted towards these loving and gentle dogs. Also please ask her to look up savage in the dictionary, the dogs had mussells on for god sake!!! A very anger Greyhound owner

so this lisa has had a greyhound before?

how can a dog with a muzzle on savage any dog?

whats this about an accident?i missed that

greys always strike me with their laissez faire attitude.they always seem so laid back theyre horizontal!my jack plays with a beautiful black and white one on the fields at the rear of our house and she can run rings round razzle but i can tell shes scared of her, bless! (the grey is i mean!) :D

hmmm shes got quite a temper our lisa hasnt she? :- " i dont think this story has a lot of credibility tbh.i cant see any dog savaging a dog if its wearing a muzzle.wonder if maybe her brother knows more about this than hes letting on and hes just telling her it was a pair of greys that savaged the dog?she looks very smug and self satisfied in that pic to me

hes like his owner isnt he?nasty little beggar

Hopefully anyone reading that article who has half a functioning brain cell will see that she is just trying to get her face in the paper. Sounds like she has quite a reputation where she lives.

That is not a puppy for sure and it looks fat imo - maybe she she sort out things closer to home before criticising others.

My greyhounds were attacked last month by a labrador type and Max has been left with a spinal injury - we didn't go seeking publicity! (Although I did phone the dog warden) And we haven't asked the culprit to pay our vet bills either.

Honestly, some people will do anything to get a bit of attention.
