Hi there,

This is my first on the forum and I was looking for a little advice. I have a beautiful rescued whippet bitch called Mouse (embarassingly). She is such a lovely creature and lots of fun. We have had her since she was 4 months and is now 14 months. We are considering getting another whippet (boy), not for mating, for companionship. I was just wondering if anybody on the forum had any advice as to whether my dog might be too young to introduce another whippet already or if I would be better waitin until she would be older.

Hi,

I have 4 Whippets (an ESS & an IG)

My second Whippet male Folly is 8 months younger than my first male Hero!

Evie is a year younger than Folly & Gracie is just over two years younger than Evie.

They all get on really well.

In my opinion Mouse is just the right age for a companion :thumbsup:

Do you think I should go for a boy or a girl? She adores male dogs when we are out, although she does bully them a bit. She even bullies the bigger dogs (I thought whippets were meant to be timid). She does get on with bitches as long as they like her, so I am not sure which sex.

My last addition to the 'pack' was Merlin, he is 6 months younger than Toby and they are inseperable, I think she is a great age to get a new friend, good luck :thumbsup: :luck:

My main concern was due to the fact that she is at her 'adolescent' phase and although well behaved, has not get everything quite right yet. Do you think it will make her more 'grown up' or will she lead the new one astray? I've never had two dogs before.

There are 5 months difference between my Whippets. They are both very different personality wise, but are the very best of friends. I have a dog and a bitch. If you do get a dog, obviously arrangements need to be made for when your bitch comes into season (unless one or both are neutered).

Two Whippets are most definitely better than one. They absolutely adore their own kind, i couldn't imagine just having one now.

I got my second whippet puppy when Oscar was 8 months old, Id never ever had two dogs before and have never looked back. They are inseperable now, and do most things together, its lovely having two. Mine are show breeding but I only keep mine as pets.

Thanks to everybody for all the help. My rescued whippet is definitely not a show whippet. Scruffy feathery tail, ears stuck up like a pharoah hound. She's gorgeuos though and I'm sure having to share a home with a pedigree whippet won't phase her at all.

I have 4 whippets 2 boys and 2 girls Tegan came to us when Owen was 7 months and Bandit came to us when Tegan was 6 months although he is the oldest of the 4 he was 16 months when he came to us, my youngest is Rosie she is Bandit and Tegan's daughter she is about 19 months .Two years ago I had William an 8 month old greyhound and I have recently acquired Zoe who is 13 week old Irish setter . She is Rosie's best friend they love chasing each other around

As others have said the only problem with having both sexes is when the bitches come in season but my boys are now used to it and as long as they are seperate they are no real problem

luckily she has been neutered, so this will not be an issue
