Heartbreaking Story In The Daily Mail

That really is very sad, I can't believe the new owners won't give her back :(

I also can't believe a rescue centre is charging £1.000 for a dog, that has to be a misprint surely.

If not, then our place is greatly undercharging at £100-£130

That's terrible, but not the first time I've heard of something like this happening. Even if your dog is chipped all the pound will do is contact the address/phone number on the chip, but if the owners are abroad that message may not get to them within the 7 days :(

I can't believe that someone would be cruel enough to keep a dog they'd had just a few days knowing he had a heartbroken family wanting him back.

I did a double-take too when I saw £1000 mentioned, but on re-reading I think that's what the original owners paid for him. The new owners paid a £55 adoption fee.

Some council pounds (I don't know about this one, obviously) do very few checks on new owners and will basically hand over a dog to anyone who pays the fee, and dogs aren't neutered before rehoming. There's no guarantee they won't go to people who want to breed or sell them on

what a sad story :(

i read it as the original owners paid £1000 for scamp and the new ones paid the £55 admin fee,

i think they should hand the dog back but i can see why the new owners dont want to, they have just got a pedigree dog for a 20th of the price.

7days doesnt seem enough to me ither,

but i think if ruby or star went missing i would be phoning ever kennel every day and visiting them were possible every day just to make sure! i would be writting and leaving notes with everyone i had spoken to and took their names to, ads in the paper, everything! there would be not way they could say we didnt contact them through the right channels :b

I think that price has to be wrong, no way would you pay

that sort of money for a Lhasa Apso.

I also think the new owners should be ashamed of themselves.

Keepin a much loved family pet of 5 years because the grandson

didnt want to return it.......

Hopefully with all the publicity their conscience will get the better of them and they will hand the dog back :-

Very unreasonable of the new people not to return this dog after they only had it for 2 days :(

Just seen this:

First of alll, a huge thank you to everyone for their support. I want you all to know the owners have agreed to give the dog back, and we are to collect it from the pound tomorrow at eleven. We are very grateful to the new owners for giving her back, as Scamp is a much loved family dog!

All being well, Scamp with be walking in the countryside on Saturday.

I will report back as soon as the dog is safe and sound.

Without all your comments, this would not have been possible! Many thanks to all concerned!
