Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are proud owners of two Italian greyhounds. Our oldest is Kisses N' Hugs and she is a little over a year old. Six month old Cricket is our newest addition and what a handful these two are!

Just recently Kisses has developed some issues that are worrying us and we need help. About a week ago kisses started showing small signs of getting sick...throwing up to be exact. We didn't think much of it because most dogs get into things that make their stomachs upset at some point but this continued for about three days so we made an appointment with our local vet.

The appointment was made for this Tuesday because of the holiday on Monday but this wasn't soon enough. Early Monday afternoon we noticed that Kisses seemed to be having muscle spasms in her rear legs and her tail that she used to carry between her legs became stiff and held to the left of her leg.

She whips her head around often to her hind quarters as if something was bothering her. She is dribbling urine, which she has never done before, and at times she walks almost in a U shape curving her spine or walks kinda hunched over, as well as, uncontrollably twitching her head to the side. Also during these episodes her rear legs jolt outward like she is trying to flick something off.

We took her to the vet instantly after this episode and the vet said that she thinks Kisses might have gotten into something toxic. So she stay overnight at the vet on and I.V. drip to flush out whatever got into her system. I picked her up this morning and she seemed normal and back to her playful self. Around eight o’ clock tonight she jumped up on our bed and I noticed a few wet spots on the sheets. It was spots of pee.

It was all downhill from there. She slowly started having the same symptoms as the night before. Now we think it is something more than eating something bad. We think it may have something to do with her spine or some kind of neurological damage. We did our research online and saw that some hospitals offer CT scans or M.R.I.’s for pets.

Has anyone ever had one taken for their pet? How much does something like that cost?

We are taking her back to the vet tomorrow but don’t think our vet will know anything more then what she has told us. Has anyone experienced anything similar to the symptoms Kisses is having?

Thank you in advance for any information you may have..

hi and welcome to k9 be it in sad circumstances, i have not come across the symptons before personally, but there are a lot of expierenced k9ers who use this forum who might be able to help.

the only thing i suggest you do,is when at your vets ask him to research and refer you to a vet who specialises in spinal and assocciated illness's, my iggy broke her leg earlier this year and we were referred to an orthopedic vet who treated her.

please keep us posted how you get on, pm me if you need any support and ill send you my landline number

Hi, and welccome to K9.

Sorry to hear you've got some worries about your Iggie. You could also try posting to a similar website called The Whippet Forum, as there are a number of very experienced IG folk on there.

Good luck getting it sorted :luck:

Hi, we are fairly new to IG's as well. Hope everything works out fine for her. Sounds worrying. Fingers crossed for you.

I wonder if it's a nerve trapping in her spine or neck? That would cause those symptoms, an would be quite painful, so may cause vomitting. I do hope your vet sorts it out for you - good luck :luck: it must be very worrying for you.

Thank you all for your support.. Kisses saw an internal specialist yesterday and any kind of parasite infection has been ruled out as with any internal injury. She is in no pain whatsoever.

So far we have stumped our primary vet and the specialist. Kisses passes all preliminary neurological tests, physical tests, and 2 blood tests... her appetite is fine and is drinking plenty of water. Her spirit is high.

We have now been referred to another specialist clinic in Cooper City FL. They are equipped with MRI and CT scanning machines.

Kisses seems to be doing better on her own and coming out of the state she has been in for the past 4 days although something just still isn't right with her, but we will see how she is after the weekend... She seems to be getting better on her own in time regardless of our failed efforts.

As requested here are some pics..
