aww you are doing a grand job with him,

please keep us posted how he gets on, it's amazing how the elderly ones get a second puppy hood sometimes :)

i'm sure he be cantering about with a grin on his face in no time at all :huggles:

bless the oldies to

aaah I know what you mean about the oldies - they really touch my heart and they are just no trouble at all. I am so glad there are others who think that way and recognise how much they have to offer. :huggles:

I have been fostering for some years now. I am lucky to be in a position to offer my help in this way. I usually foster one dog at a time, so I can assess its needs properly and make sure it gets all the love and attention it needs. (I have two rescued dogs of my own as well). To find a good, loving home for a foster dog is all our rescue want for any of our dogs. We try to match the right dog to the right home, so everyone is happy.

Most of the foster dogs settle in here and I love them all. I could not keep them all of course, and the day I keep one, is the day I will have to stop fostering I suppose, as I only have so much room here.

The thing is, there are so many dogs waiting for their opportunity to be asessed for that loving, forever home. Much as I would love to keep most of the dogs I foster, I do not want to have to turn my back on those waiting patiently for their chance to shine. (and if we do not have a quick enough turnaround then we are always in danger of losing dogs that have been in the pound for too long. They are pts to make room for the new strays coming into the pound...).

If any of my foster dogs was unable to find the right home then they would stay. Sometimes though, I can honestly say that I do not offer the most suitable home for the dog in question....very often the forever home we find is much better for the dog than if he stayed here. This place is just a stop-gap where he is safe, cared for and loved, till his true soul companion and guardian angel comes along.

Willow is the same as all my beloved foster dogs. I will love him as my own until his turn to be chosen comes. I always hope a dog gets chosen as quickly as possible, (once he is fully better of course - they often come in ill) so he doesn't get too settled here. I will PM you my details in case your friend is interested in offering our lovely boy a forever home. :))

Thankyou everybody for your kind words. Willow is gorgeous. Such a gentle soul. I have no idea whether anyone will ever offer him a home - who would want someone elses old blind cast off?
I have bought him two lovely coats - one waterproof, the other just warm - from the "TRPD petcraft project" website. All the money they raise goes towards keeping dogs in rescues warm through the winter, as they use any profits to make coats, fleecy  blankets etc and they give them to dogs in rescues - especially greyhounds as they are so needy in the winter. The people who make the garments are all volunteers.

I have just now ordered Willow a woolly pully from another charity website, called k9 knitters. They have lots of lovely jumpers for sale, knitted by volunteers and all profits go towards a rescue known as "the oldies club" which specialises in caring for those old cast out dogs that are down on their luck, due to the inhumanity of their previous owners.

I thought you might like to know about these two charitable sites, as the products they make are very good quality and reasonably priced, and all profits go into helping rescued dogs.

I got Molly a jumper from k9 knitters, it was lovely until Lenny promptly chewed a big hole in it, while it was still on Mollys back!!! I posted some pics of her in the jumper on this forum, look at my previous topics :)

PS. don't know if you noticed but FeeFee from the oldies club posted a bit earlier on this thread to see if you wanted Willow to be advertised on the oldies club website.

Thanks Jezza - I saw FeeFees post - but I missed the last bit - so thanks for alerting me.

Oh it is so sad, there are so many oldies on the oldies club site....but I guess looing on the bright side, these are the lucky oldies in foster homes or in rescue care.

I can't wait to get Willow's jumper. The only one that was the right size for him is quite an amusing one actually - it is a cream arran knit with a collar and a lovely orange bow tie!! I have no idea whether Wills will like it. He likes his lovely furry TRPD coat thankfully. He needs it on these cold mornings. Believe it or not we haven't had any rain since he arrived, so we have not had to try out his new raincoat!

(our previous 2 foster dogs were not so lucky - it rained every single day whilst we looked after them - what a nightmare.)

Yes, I get very sad when I look at all the dogs for rehoming, but like you say, the ones in foster care are the lucky ones.

I would love to be a foster carer but I work too long hours at the moment, also my house is like a shoe box  but perhaps one day I'll be able to. I have been looking into fostering small animals eg. rats and mice, as I love rodents, but I can see myself getting over run with them!

Willows jumper sounds really fetching, you will have to post a picture of him wearing it when it arrives :D

I've just had a look at the jumper on the k9knitters website! Brilliant (w00t) it looks like the same style as Mollys but hers is purple, and without a dickie bow!

I don't think there will be any need to advertise dear Willow on the oldies site :- "

aaah lucky Willow has been offered a forever settee with Janet's lovely neighbour and her old whippet girl Lucy. I am thrilled for our boy.

He won't be able to go for a month due to his new mum's holiday arrangements, but I am sure when he gets there he will settle nicely into his new family.

Thankyou Janet for your help and I know you and yours will be spending lots of time with our fella when he gets there! :D

   Thats brilliant news, Lucky Willow. Will his new jumper be going too? :D

"Will his new jumper be going too? "

:D haha! When any dog leaves here they go complete with all their bits and bobs. Everything they need to help them settle into their new home - coats, jumpers, bedding, food, treats, toys - whatever it might be, they go with it! :D

Bea and Lily (who, being deaf, may not really absorbed the fact she is getting a new brother :)) ) are so thrilled that alison has agreed Willow can come and live with them. polly and twiggy will be delighted to have a boy in their pack too. Polly is very good at looking after new dogs (she was and is very gentle with lily) so she'll mother him until he finds his feet.

Will keep you all posted with plenty of pics after he arrives.

:) What a fantastic outcome. Good luck.

That is such wonderful news about Willow.  Really cheered me up.

What a lovely outcome for Willow - I'm sure he'll bring love, luck and lots of licks to his new home! :luck:

Thats great news, well done Alison and well done to Bea and Lilly for offering this lovely boy a forever home :huggles:

Good luck :luck: :luck:

bless him :huggles:

and bless you x x x x

I don't know what dog's would do without peep's like you.

Great news for Willow! (w00t) Keep up all your great work :huggles:

We went out today to get some stuff for the dogs and bought a welcome pressie for Willow. My friend, Bea, (who is having him, and lives next door) and I have told the Girls they are getting a brother when we get back from holiday, but they are not impressed - yet

Polly was so gentle with lily when Bea got her in January (she is deaf and almost blind, aged 14) but now Miss Independence doesn't wait for Polly and is ruler of the roost!! it is amazing how these oldies blossom when they get their forever home.

I'm sure dear Willow will be exactly the same. There is a warm bed/chair all ready for him, and as much love as he can take!!

Will post pics as soon as he come to us, next month.

Willow has asked me to let you know that he loves his treats. He takes them gently, then rushes to "his" settee to eat them in peace.

Now his teeth are good he can eat all sorts - but he doesn't like the smell of fish, so won't have anything fishy.

Beef jerky is nice - and real beef of course! He likes chicken-y things as well. In fact he will gobble up bowls and bowls of chicken and rice! :D

He says he is enjoying his holiday in the Forest of Dean with Aunty Alison, but is looking forward to meeting his new family in Kent.
