Hi all, I know this is a strange one, but does anyone know if I can do anything to save my grass.

In the areas where Codie pees the grass is dying, is there anything that can be added to his food or anything.#

Ive heard of adding a little tomato sauce to his last meal at night, ha ha he would throw it at me lol.

Can anyone help please.

Gavin

Sorry I only know of the tomato sauce thing as well, my advice would be to do like we did get flags sorry I know thats not what you want to hear but it worked for us, we are fortunate to have a side garden so the front and back are lawn and the side is flagged, the trouble I have with mine if they get on to grass is they dig big holes everywhere  so it was neater to flag anyway

don't know if this will be any use but i have made a kind of sand pit for mine to do their business in, they seem to prefer to go in it than go on grass, and it makes "picking up" easy

Thats a good idea Becka, a sandpit (w00t) we're gonna give that one a try

Gavo i've not seen grass for a while :- " We moved house 18 months ago and had lush green lawns, unfortunately, not for long!!!

Keep a watering can or hose nearby and pour water over the spot where she's just peed, diluting it should help. :)

Have no problem from my girls pee, I guess my grass is some unkillable, super tough variety, but they keep digging it up. So I do not have much lawn left.

Maybe try to plant something more resilient?

Lida

I have the same problem Gavin at the back. :- " I thought about scrapping out the dead grass and putting down some grass seed, but is this ok for dogs??

My front lawn was the best in the scheme, until some stranger let their dog pee and poop on it!!!

Mine killed off a box hedge - as each one died he used the next one along. Remember this has been a particularly hot and dry season for grass, so it doesn't take much to kill it at the moment. Once the rain starts again it might improve.

Anslinmcg, just wait until September and put a mix of sand/compost/grass seed on the holes and they should recover. I have to do this to mine every year after the duck arks have been on it.

Coarser grass mixes seem to survive better too - the worst dead bits on mine are where I sowed the nice fine mix, it burns off really quickly after any sort of urea whereas the rye-grass areas take much rougher treatment.

Oh the joys of owning hounds.........As has been said, when the rain comes, it will soon pop up all green again. I do like the sand pit idea......Mmmmmmmm, might be worth a try beaker

we have a gravelled area with pots and things which leads on to the grass area.....the dogs always seem to go on the gravel.....i dont know why!

maybe having a gravel area would work, or like becker said, a sand area

Ps.......you can buy them 'pee posts' which have a scent or something on them that encourages dogs to wee on it  , not sure if they are any good but you could always try it

I couldn't have gravel my dogs have a thing about stones I would end up with more in the house than outside

Yeh Lesley , Codie is the same, he picks up the stones and brings them into his bed.

Whippynit I have bought the pee post, but he is not interested in it.

Sweal The rocks sound good, I will look into that.

ainslinmcq Just you get my dog back to me NOW lol

Yep my grass is also suffering too. Someone my hubby knows told us its just till the dogs reach about 1 year old, for some reason there is something in the urine which isnt there after that age. Havnt had time to see if that works yet because Kobi is only 4 and half months - Oscar is now just over a year - so we will see.

Going to try some of the tips here now - diluting it etc. etc.

Was going to get a Pee Post - but dosnt sound like they work either then.

Hello,

I always lurk - never knowing what to say but I actually have some good advice. YYYIIIIPPPEEEEEEEE.

I walk a GSD that is vegetarian and was looking for treats for him, I came across some treats called Green Ems, thought obviously they were vegetarian but NO, they have a mineral in them that stops your grass turning green when the dog pees!!!!!!!

Hope this helps.

Annette

Silly me,

Got so excited........

Stops the grass turning brown.

You know what I mean.

Now you know why I never post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
