Nana has a lump between her jaw and neck (where I would expect a gland to be) bigger than a table tennis ball.

I discovered it when pulling her fleecey coat over her head and she yelped.

She doesn't want me to put her head back and doesn't like any pressure on it. She also has a new, fresh looking scrape about an inch from it, not bad- wouldn't normally worry about it.

Any ideas of what is causing the lump and whether you think she needs the vet.

She is fine in herself- very bouncy and supper went down like a shot.

sounds like an infected gland.maybe shes had a cut or bite?either way shell need a course of antibiotics

Any lumps , straight to the Vets Im afraid (w00t) > Never mess around if you can find a lump is my view . and you lot know what im like about going to vets :- "

Good luck , fingers crossed its nothing serious :luck:

my rosa had a simalar lump develop on her inner thigh after it had been scratched (only slightly) when she had been running in the sand dunes, turned out to be a lymph node that had become infected, it cleared up with an antibiotic course no probs

think maybe a trip to the vets could be a good idea

:luck: :luck: :luck:

Agree with Jax  I'd be straight to the vet with a lump, just to be on the safe side ;)

:luck: Best of luck :luck: I'm sure it's nothing to worry about ,it does sound like an inflamed gland, but keep us posted :))

Thank you for the advice

I have spoken to the vets (who know that she is TERRIFIED of them), they think see how it goes and bring her in in the morning if it is still there (especially as their surgery hours are over now and we would be paying emergency rates).

If it gets any worse of course we'll be down there instantly (luckily they aren't far away)

Fingers crossed its nothing seriuos, no what you mean about them not liking vets though, our vet wont take Rose in unless Mark stays with her or they sedate her first as she took one of his brand new cages to pieces years ago. (w00t)

Awwww poor Nana, fingers crossed its nothing serious Olivia, we are all thinking of you. :huggles:

Floras last bout of illness started with a lump too, but after antibiotics she was fine and is back to her ususal annoying self!!

Let us know how she gets on .

Thinking of you Olivia :huggles: and sending Good Luck to nana :luck: :luck:

i had a cold sore on my bottom lip once and it spread to my glands in my neck and they swelled up like ballons.i looked like i had goitre! (w00t) i also got this really bad with a tooth abscess.it looks a lot worse than it is but with a tooth abscess you have to be careful cos when it 'tracks' it can be really bad.antibiotics clear it up quickly though

Hope everything goes ok for Nana :luck: :luck: :luck:

Julie

Lots of best wishes for you and Nana :luck: :luck: :luck:

I always take all mine to the vets if one needs treatment so the other 2 get used it being a place that is ok to go and not only for jabs ect so they don't think it's all bad my vets dont mind either in fact they are glad about it they usually look the others over and make a fuss of them (for free too)my vet is great

yes- we do that too- and we've been doing that for 1 1/2 years since we've had her and it's slowly helping

The good news is that its going down :) The strange news is that there seems to be a patch of saggy skin where it was  .

Well almost gone this morning, just a bit puffy round where it was- no idea what it was if it went down that quickly and it really was huge- I measured it to be 1 1/2" across.

Thank you all for the advice

Thats good news :sweating: lumps are so scary aren't they, it's a bit of a mystery though isn't it , it sounds like it could be a gland or something doesn't it with it being there,

A few years back the side of my face swelled up for no reason and they sent me to hospital and gave me antibiotics through a drip (w00t) they said it was a build up of saliva in one of the tubes it went down and has never happened again maybe it was something like that

So glad it's gone down hope Nana is feeling ok :huggles:
