Hi there.

Im new here and new to Lurchers. Hope u dont me joining in?.

I recently got a Smooth coated, Black and Cream Lurcher, Whip/Saluki/Grey/Deerhound. We'v called her Lotti (Lotsa Leg)

She's only 7wks. Well actually when I asked the woman how old she was she said she was 6weeks old but when I asked for her actual birthday it worked out that she would be 7weeks old. But she is very very tiny and very Saluki looking. She's defiantly all legs, bless her.

She's also very unusually skinny and boney. Yes I know these beautiful dogs are naturally like that but she just seems extra boney, eg spin stickin out ect. I was told she was fed on "Cat biscuits because theyr smaller" !! ??.

She's not at all house trained either which is fun. But at the moment Im just trainin her to go by the back door then we'll move on to outside. She's actually really scaired to go outside at the moment.

I was goin to post the few pictures I have of her (all of her sleepin cos she doesnt stay still long enough when awake, LoL)

but I cant access my Photobucket account. Still waitin for a password reminder. But I will as soon as I get on there and upload them on there.

I also have a 6 year old Tri-Coloured Border Collie boy (neutered) who is my baby boy, LoL. He's atad excitable but otherwise soo well behaved and trained. Knows all basic commands. Iv had him since he was a puppy.

Cant wait until Lotti can have her injections and get her out and about.

Hope u all dont mind me joining in.

I cant wait to get some more better pictures of her. She just doesnt stay still at the moment unless she's asleep or on a lap And Iv only had her a couple of days now.

I love her big long nose and she has gorgeous big round dark soppy eyes. Oh and her neck is so long it reminds me of those tribal women that put those metal rings round their necks to stretch them, LoL

Oh and she has that hole Lurcher/Grey thing....... on the back, legs up and sleep..... down to a tee for her age already, LoL.

Hi and welcome to the famous k9, di

Hello and welcome :D

To me she does look a tad thin, yes this cross are meant to be slight and athlectic looking,

has she been wormed, four to five small meals with raw meat and fat would condition her up,

she does look a sweet little thing.

good luck with her

Hallo and welcome to K9 :)

Lotti looks gorgeous and at only 7 weeks old she is quite young to have already left her mum and she will need extra care because of this.

I agree with Debbieb, raw diet of tripe and lamb mince (maybe chopped up raw chicken wings too) is best but I have recently raised two young lurcher pups myself and in addition to the raw food I left them a bowl of Burns Mini Bites down at all times so that they never went hungry. One of them was very poorly when I took him on.

Drontal Plus for puppies is the best wormer - Lotti will only need half a tablet at her size, but do make sure she is wormed - it's soooo important :) ......... oh, and I also give mine tripe sticks to chew on morning and evening as an extra which was good for them too

Otherwise, lots of warmth and affection and you have yourself a beautiful little lurcher

Hi.

Yeah I was shocked and taken aback when the woman said she was 6weeks. But then I thought if I didnt take her then she would have only ended up somewhere else. They were a litter of 8 apparently and she only had the 3 left!!. But then according to the birthday that she gave me she worked out to be 7wks old.

The woman said she had been wormed last last Monday. But I have gone straight out and bought some Im gona give her as soon as I can. Cos she does have a very round belly but her hole back end is very very slight. I know she very young but theres absolutly no muscle/fat or substance to her hips and back legs and her bones really do stick out there too, bless her.

Mmmm tripe, that stuff just smells lovely, LoL. My Mum gave our Bassett that we had when we were younger. Thats the only thing she would eat. Well appart from Mince and Pasta. And my Archey has tripe sticks all the time and I found some Puppy tripe bites in the shop the other day. Theyr abit softer than the sticks and she loves them.

I also feed her little and often too.

Thanks for the kind nice replies.

What a lovely puppy! Worming with Drontal and good quality food will get her going in the right direction. Please keep us updated with lots of photos as she grows.

Thanks Amanda.

hello and welcome to k9 the pups are

Thanks for the lovely replies and I really didnt take offence to the thin reply :) . Even though I know this breed is slight as a trait but her back end is just bones really bless her. She does need building up a little bit.

Right quick question......

She follows me every where and shes so tiny she can be like a pin ball bouncy between my feet as Im walkin, LoL.

As soon as I sit down anywhere she wants to be on my lap. I go to the toilet and she sits at the hall gate crying. If when Iv got my Toddler (18 months) on the floor in the living room I shut them in the kitchen only by a Dog gate so she can see every thing thats goin on in the living room if she wants to, but she'll sit there crying and even yelping. But she's not to bad at bed time she literally yelps for about ten minutes and settles. How can I get her out of this?. I really dont want her to have seperation anxienty(sp?) when she's older.

Thanks for any kind help :)

Awww, bless

She's bonded with you as her mum because she was so young when you got her.

For now, she needs you and I would let her have that comfort. In another week or so, when she is stronger, she will get braver and won't be so clingy. Make the most of it, it won't last long as they soon grow up and become more independent. Also she's got Archey for company and when she's a bit bigger the bond between them will be stronger and it will help her to move on from you a bit

The close up pics of her are gorgeous, she is soooooooo pretty

Hi there, the pics are really lovely and she looks very contented. I know that we all have different ways of bringing up our pups and I am not saying any of the advice is wrong, but the best way to get your pup to be healthy and happy is for you to to what feels right. You clearly have done something right in the past as your other dog looks just as happy. The only advice I would give you is to make sure that the pup gets all the vitimins and nutrients she needs. I personally find that feeding the pup (at her age now) 4 times a day helps to keep the weight up and I usually start with a bowl of porridge or weetabix for breakfast, soaked all in one (with milk) at dinner, meat and biscuits at tea and another bowel of porridge before bed. I have kept all kinds of lurchers, from bedlington/whippets to collie/greyhounds and my latest 5mth old is a mixture of both, and i have used the same method for 13 years. As the pup grows older you can reduce the amount of meals from little and often to a little bigger meals, say around 4 mths to three meals and then 6 months to two. i generally keep the 6-12 mth old dog on 2 meals and once they are a year, they go on to one meal per day - others will keep their dogs on two meals per day all their adult life.

I don't feed tripe and the likes until they are a good 8mths or so, as it is strong and can upset a delicate tummy. Likewise, it is not a good idea to feed hard chewable biscuits until the adult teeth and through becauase you can distort a puppy's bite or break of undeveloped teeth if you allow them to chew on hard items.

I hope that you have some lovely times with the pup and I am sure she will soon start to grow out of the whining stage. The best way to avoid seperation anxiety is not to make too much of a fuss when you leave the pup nor when you return. You should allow the pup to almost go off asking for your attention before you give it to her, that way she will not think taht you have been anxious about leaving her, which only goes to reinforce her fear. I know this from experience becuase one of my staffords is terrible and it is my fault as i treated him like a baby as a puppy and now at 3years old and 4 stone (which is pure muscle) - greeting mummy at the door is somewhat of a challenge.

Good luck and just try to enjoy these puppy times as they don't last very long.
