I sometimes give Milly and Poppy hide chews, are they good for the girls when they eat them ?

I'd be interested in hearing other views on this

I have never fed any chews very regularly, but Blue has occasional pigs ears, and raw hide in various guises...but have recently noticed that when she has a pigs ear or similar chew which tends to get consumed she seems to get tummy pain sometime afterwards....she had a piece last night and this morning has had times of crying and looking at her tummy this morning...think I will lay off them now altogether...she does have some puffed up dried beef which she likes and is softer and offers her no problems.

claire my lot dont have pigs ears anymore either as for some reason gives them the runs especaily my little ollie ,soo i dont feed em now ,but they love the trip stick and eat them like there going outa fashion ,they also love the big hide chew bones to and have them regular so will be interesting to see what everyone else say :)

I don't give them either, I think the pigs ears are too fatty and give them soft tummies. dried tripe on the other hand goes down a treat and never has given them tummy problems. they love the dried fish too (either fish4dogs or there's one at P@H) again with no problems

But the tripe sticks STINK!!! :x ...but yes she has had these with no problems either...

the tripe sticks smell like roses compared to the actual dried tripe :D when they have that the whole kitchen stinks and their faces and paws stink for hours afterwards :x I get mine from Morrisons own brand, the packet costs about £1.20.

well that would be my entire house stinking then cos its tiny!!

thats a good idea to ,to compare prices i mean so that people can go shopping for the best value ,i get my tripe sticks from hyper value .99p a bag (w00t) anybody else do any better than that ??

Mine get a hide chew once a week. You have to watch out that the dogs do not choke if the tear off a large bit and try to swallow it.

Having said that, it aways comes back up almost straight away :D never had a serious problem with these.

Mine adore tripe sticks too 99p a bag from Instore or most of the cheepie £ type shops. THEY DO STINK (w00t) and they do not last long.

I do find that pigs ears and the rolled pigs skin type chews upset the dogs stomachs sometimes

ALSO

The liquid fat taken off the chicken gravy after roasting and added to their food as a treat is really bad and a definate banned product here.

I give my whippets cow hooves to chew - have been doing so for 20 plus years and have never had a problem with them swallowing the hard tip or anything like that. It definitely does help with tartar build-up, but the best for removing tartar is still a big marrow bone once a week - if you have more than one dog, best to give it to them under supervision and also remove it when it gets small enough to swallow

Tripe sticks are horrid .. they stink

Even though Ben adores piggy ears they only get strips every now and again as Ben's has doggy IBS and for some reason they effect him.

I do give the boys hide chews as they like that and keep their teeth nice. I wont give them hide bones with the knots in them though as both have chocked on them.... they get the hid slipper or stick.

Will be interested to hear other's views on this.

Cows ears are supposed to be gentler on the stomach for those who cannot tolerate pigs ears.

mine don't get hide chews with knots on since a bad choking incident or small twisted ones cos they can lock onto the lips and have to be untwisted off! but they do have small shoe ones and cigars sometimes but their absolute favourite is 'sniffers' these are the ends of pig noses and honk (ahem) a bit but they love them.
