Due to a little confusion over my last posting offering a home for a female whippet, I thought I would re-write and clarify. I am offering a home to a whippet bitch between the ages of a 1-2yrs.

I am happy to consider a dog with mild behavioural problems, or a dog that has perhaps not made the grade as a show or coursing dog, or just needs rehoming through other circumstances.

I am not looking to buy, but to offer a good home, with good food, good exercise in a family environment. Pedigree or non predigree not important.

Why are you not looking to buy, because a dog needs rehoming it doesn't make it worth any less :(

If I wanted to rehome a dog of mine, I would not worry about how much I had initially spent on it, as long as it went to the right home then that would be my main concern.

but by paying at least something for your pet ,( or offering) you would show appreciation that the currant owner has spent time AND money ( lots of it ) on the dog concerned .

I have given away one of my whippets in the past to a super home , with people who already have MULCAIR whippets ,they offered money and certainly wouldn't have expected something as valuable as one of my whippets for nowt .

Even at rescue centres all over the world you have to pay something as a contribution for upkeep , is that why you are trying to get a`free` one off K9 :- "

as always JMO :- "

why when breeders / owners have spent so much time and money on the pup / dog that they should give it away ?

I am not here to argue with anyone, I can see that alot of people on here are commercial breeders and I understand your views to a point. I am in touch with my local rescue centres, and as stated in my post I am happy to consider a dog with behavioural problems and certainly have no problem spending on a dog, and taking care of any subsequent veterinary cost's most of which would be covered by my pet insurance.

I have experience of dogs with problems, and would much rather devote time and effort putting right other peoples mistakes rather than just going out to buy another pup. As I said I am not here to argue, I am a genuine a caring person who is happy to re home a whippet..

Not been on here long and this is just IMO but i tend to agree with all of the above. I have two rescued Greyhounds who were both desperate for a good home but still made a donation to the rescue charities so they can continue their great work and help many more of these wonderful dogs.

I am now about to add a Whippet to my family, not a rescue this time but a gorgeous little pup and will happily pay to cover the costs of the fantastic start he has been given in life.

Sorry if that offends anyone :(

A donation is the right and honorable thing with regard to rescue centres, perhaps the definition of donation and buying should be considered. What do people see as an acceptable purchase price for a dog that someone wishes to re-home, I wish someone would tell me..

Lets say someone has bought a pup for £450, and for whatever reason they wish to re-home it, what should any potential new owner expect to pay ??

I and lots of others on here are NOT COMMERCIAL BREEDERS (w00t) I take exception to that remark (w00t) It over 20 years of whippet ownership I have not even bred 10 litters im hardly a commercial biz would you say o:) , thats the same for Dessie and most of theothers on here , if not all .

I and most of the others breed when we want another puppy to show and for no other reason , please dont tarnish us all with the same brush

I am not tarring anyone with anything, people have to make a living and if their chosen business is the breeding of dogs, then that is up to them, and I don't believe I have directed anything personal at you, however you surely must agree that when viewing some breeders websites, it is difficult to ascertain between a small caring breeder and commercialism.. or is it me.

As I said I do not wish to argue, I would like someone to provide an answer to my question..

We to are not "commercial breeders" or is anyone else that i know of, that has replied to this post. We have bred a litter as we wanted our own pups to show.

we've bred 1 litter (w00t)

Nobody on here ( to my knowledge ) makes a living breeding dogs , How do you tell a `commercial` breeder from a `hobby` breeder ..............go to their home , see how they keep their dogs , see how many generations they have is a good clue( IMO ) ,

Breeders websites are there to show you their dogs and what they have done with them , We all like to `blow` our own trumpet with wins etc .

Phone calls and visit to the breeders with pups and other dogs show you who are in it for the £ and those that arnt . Mine are kept in kennels , never allowed in the house at all  ;)
