After picking a rogue flea from a certain whipppet who shall remain nameless (the shame of it all) and dumping it in a glass of water (the flea that is), I decided to do a controlled experiment to see : How long can a flea survive in a glass of water. The answer will be revealed on Sunday, The closest guess (in days) will win a million pounds :thumbsup:

It lasts as long as the oxygen in its underwater tanks... doh! o :lol: To check to see if it's wearing equipment put your thumb over it's snorkel.

If it's not wearing tanks it can probably do the back-stroke for a week!! :wacko:

Well you've said we have to guess in days to win a million pounds so the answer must be in minutes.........I'll guess 3 minutes, unless it was boiling water in which case I'll go for 30 seconds. :cheers:

(Plus I cant imagine Joanna having a drowing flea on the bench till Sunday :lol: )

Difficult one. Fleas are covered in tiny hairs which get covered in bubbles allowing them to float unless you hold them under for a while. Hot soapy water seems to damage the hairs so they sink. If you just dropped it in a glass of cold water, it could probably survive quite a long time, until the little hairs got saturated. 12 hours? :unsure: :b :lol:

The answer is in days :blink: ie 1 day, 2 days etc.. I will give you a clue, it's not less than 1 day.

The experiment was conducted a few weeks ago, I have only just got round to sharing these important findings with K9. It was a glass of cold water and the flea remained floating throughout.

Got to say that there is summat a bit sick about all of this. Well IMO there is.

Personally I believe that if something has to be killed then it's best done fast. That applies to any living creature.

Ok, had I known that there were flea sympathisers out there I would not have posted the topic. I will announce the results now to avoid any more upset to the FLF. As it is, the flea survived. After 7 days it had apparently stopped moving, it was removed from the water and placed on on a tissue that morning awaiting a proper send off that evening. On returning from work I discovered that the flea had dissapeared It had presumably hopped off, none the worse from it's experience, to suck the blood of another unsuspecting mammal, Amazing creatures are fleas :thumbsup: . So due to an inconclusive result no-one gets the million quid :- " sorry about that. P.s I will just stick to posting the odd photo in future :blink: .
