Now then you K9'ers I need lots and lots of advice on 2 whippies BEFORE I get him. WHIPPYDOOOOO

Episode 3 already. :teehee:

He's lovely.

Be prepared for Oscar to growl the first time he sees him and to be in a bit of a huff. Nine times out of ten it wears off, and they end up being good buddies. Older dogs aren't so keen on pups at first, but soon learn there's fun to be had and it even livens them up a bit in my experience. Besides Oscar's still a youngster isn't he?

Gosh there's nothing like that feeling that you're bringing a new pup home.

I'd say have everything ready and planned for as soon as you bring the pup through the door i.e. quiet bed for pup to rest, toilet training routine all mapped out, where he sleeps at night, feeding area, toys etc , and then relax Try not to worry about how OH is reacting to the pup (I was really bad at that), especially as it's more of a concession for him. Relax and enjoy him (the pup that is  )! You'll realise that one was just too quiet a life!!

Heck I'm on a roll again.

awwww how sweet, and standing nice already!

Check your batteries in your camera are charged Janis. We will EXPECT photo's immediatley and lots of them.

We worried about how Max was going to react to Beau. Instead of the reaction we expected.... he humped poor little Beau. And he humped and he humped. He spent nearly all of the first night walking around on top of Beau. Beau didn't bat an eyelid. Max never did it again after the first night

Thanks for the responses so far  and advice - I'll need it. I have got a few concerns about the initial Meeting ... but Oscar is really friendly usually with other dogs and like puppies too.

Thats really funny about the humping Karen   Oscar does that with his cushion - wonder wether he will do that with the puppy.

yey   CONGRATULATIONS

I am not going to say told you so :- "

My advice is ENJOY EVERY MINUTE Oscar will love his new whippy friend, what number is he by the way? He looks like no 1

Yes Lesley it was a toss up between pup 1 and pup 4 but Emma has been in touch and Im having Pup 1.(Nickname Buzz) at the mo.

I'm excited for you :D

Whippydoo indeed

What is the little fella gonna be called?

He looks like a Gilbert to me 8)

As Nicola says be prepared for a bit of growling and putting the pup in his place  and try not to interfere while they sort themselves out - but they'll soon end up best buddies.

Joanna will be a good one to give advice having just acquired a second pup herself

You finaly decided to tell everyone on K9 about the little lad :teehee: . He a lovely wee man  .

Whats his name going to be ?

Hope you's all have a happy and full life together, and Oscar will just love him

Great news Janis  A realy stunning little lad, so what are you going to call him??

When I bought Stanley home, Archie was about 9 months and I have to say it was Stan that did all the barking - Archie was in shock! But Archie accepted straight away absolutely no probs. He spent a long time following him about in the garden and sniffing him and he was fine.

My best advice it always make sure you reinforce Oscar as top dog by always saying hello to him first, feeding him first etc etc, this really helps to reduce any possible jealousy that may occur.

So I expect you are counting down the days! :D

Many congratulations Janis  Remind me who the puppy is and belongs to, I am sure I have sealion dementia.

As for introducing,

1) I was scared, it is scary, you want to protect the pup but not upset the grown up. Jo is right about ensuring Oscar is top dog still.

2) Don't be worried if Oscar doesn't take to him growls or ignores, I promise it gets better with time.

3) If they want to play fight, let them get on with it and don't be tempted to stop it unless blood is being drawn. It seems to encourage barriers to be dropped and reenforce top dog status. Stand close by and observe. You will be amazed at how Oscar inhibits his bite and doesn't harm pup.

4) Don't leave them alone together unless you are 100% sure you trust Oscar, he is still young (Archie is too).

5) Drink lots of wine, chill, enjoy your new pup and give every-thing time to gel and it will. You may have no problems, but I thought Archie would be fine, and as you know he wasn't. I think staying calm is the best thing, also stay in control. The best advice I was given was..........YOU ARE PACK LEADER. If you want them both to sit on the sofa, then they do it, if you don't want them fighting, then they don't. If you want Oscar to stop beating Sh*t out of the baby, he doesn't..........and so on. YOU are top dog.

Enjoy

Ah well, it's nice to know it can be done (persuading the OH that is), you stand out as a beacon of hope to us all!

My main concern was upsetting Callie and sienna, especially as they are so close, also Sienna didn't seem too keen on puppies at that time, the best advice I got was to just put spry in and let them sort themselves out(under supervision of course) thats what they did, they let spry get away with a lot but also let her know if she's gone too far, and so far are a very happy bunch, i think Oscar will love having a playmate especially as he is young his self

Just look at that puppy

Well done, Janis. You must be so excited :teehee: when is "Coming Home" day?????

Thanks everyone ..... Ive just been for a long walk with OH - talking about it. (the pup that is)

Ill admit I have one or two concerns - but hopefully it will go smoothly and I will take all your good advice on board.

OH has just said - the bloody cats have just settled down, they will need eyes in their ar...s now with 2 dogs on the go

I hope its not that bad - surely it wont be. (w00t)

I dont know definite date getting the pup but think it will be last week of May.

I'm delighted for you Janis you must be so happy. I know Oscar will make a brilliant big brother.

Jenny

He's so lovely!

Try and relax as best as possible when you introduce him to Oscar - Ten can really tell when i'm tense and if its about another dog he knows and acts as threatening as Ten can - well thats just not showering said dog in kisses, thats as mean as Ten gets (w00t) you can imagine how safe i feel on those late night walks in the dark!

I can't wait for more pics

:luck: Goodluck & enjoy!
