Hi

I live in Bedfordshire and want to get a whippet (or Italian Greyhound) pup. Does anyone know of a breeder they can recommend in Beds/Bucks/Herts areas?

I don't work regularly at the mo although I do work part time on occasions. I will need to get someone to pop in to see to the pup during those days. I have spoken to local vets and pet shops but can only find people willing to walk a grown dog or take the puppy into their own homes to care for it all day long. I don't want this as I have two cats and I want them all to become friends so would rather the pup stayed here and got used to its new home.

Can anyone advise me (a prospective first time pup owner)?

Hi raggie,

welcome to k9 :huggles:

im sure you already know this but there is a big difference to whippets and italian greyhounds.

i think maybe you should read up on both breeds and see which one you think will best suit you :)

if you can have somone at home most of the day i wouldnt advise getting a pup, they crave attention when they are young and can become distructive if board or left alone for long periods.

maybe if you cant find someone to watch a pup during the day you could consider rehoming a slightly older dog, who can be left for a few hours. :b

im sure you will get lots of good advice from k9, and you will soon find exactly what you are looking for :)

good luck

remember pics of your new friend when you get him/her :huggles:

In London there is people that could take your puppy out...but in your area I'm not sure.

hi raggie i know people that work full time and have dogs so it can be done as long as you have good arrangements in place there are some companies that will come in and let your dog i would just make 100% sure i had some sort of arrangement in place before you get a pup good luck !! :)

Have PM'd you!

Thanks for this.

I've given pup ownership an awful lot of thought. I thought I should get a cage to leave the pup in during the day and also for it to sleep in overnight, with bedding and lots of toys and water, of course. I want it to have somewhere safe where it can escape from my cats. One of my cats is very maternal and I can imagine her wanting to mother a new puppy. My other cat is only a kitten (albeit a very big one) and he needs a new play thing, I mean play mate !!!

I should only be out of the house for 6 hours a day, max, and then only occasionally so I will spend a lot of time with the pup. I want to find someone to come in after, say, 3 hours. Do you think that would be ok?

I've spoken to my local pet shop and a friend of mine who has greyhounds and whippets so they are keeping an eye out for me to find someone to pop in to see to the pup.

Will post pics as soon as I can !!!
