Hi Guys,

Willow and Archies tags are looking really scruffy and it's getting hard to read the phone number on Archie's especially.

Can anyone here recomend somewhere I can get longlasting, hardwearing tags please?

 Speaking of tags - I think I need to get some new ones done  Mine have only got my tel nos and my name on. What SHOULD be on them??

I think it is: Your name, telephone number, house number and postcode

Penny

By Law I believe it should be owners name, address and phone number.

Personally I don't put my address on mine though. :- "

This time round I was thinking of putting my name, mobile number as well as "neutered & chipped" with perhaps my vets number on the other side if the tag allows.......

Maybe I have way too much time on my hands to think about things like this. :b

Just got this from the KC website;

The Control of Dogs Order 1992 mandates that any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address (including postcode) of the owner engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag. Your telephone number is optional (but advisable).

 Thanks for that....I did think it would be a good idea to put on m/chipped

as well!

red dogs do some great tags with great designs on them i couldnt find a link but if you look in the dogs today mag they r normally in there

Thanks, I don't get the magazine though.

I like the Boomerang tags that fit flat to the collar (I hate jingling).

I have been trialling having plaques engraved and anodised (the anodising makes the print black) which are then attached to the collar with cap rivets.

Too new to know how it will work.

In one local council dogs are given a lifetime registration number, so that will be included as well.

I have registered Ellie with Keepsafe, a company who keep all your records on computer and will change the details whenever you go on holiday. Instead of wearing a tag which shows all our details the Keesafe tag has a national number and a code for Ellie so if she gets lost anyone who finds her, rings Keepsafe who then ring us. If she ever loses the tag they replace it free of charge. Only thing is it costs about £70, but if I bought 7 tags in her lifetime it would cost that much.

Even if you have a tag such as this it's still required by law that you have a tag with the details mentioned above on it.

We have dog license tags here, and the dog warden can get our details by looking up the tag number. It's frustrating when you find a stray dog and it has a license tag, but the dog pound is closed; you can't get the owners contact details till the place reopens! (That could be as much as 3 days on bank hol weekends!) But I'm guessing Keepsafe is 24/7.

Lol, I'm with ya on the jingling, drives me mad; but great if they dissapear into some bushes - I can hear where they are at.

I do like the ones that fit flat against the collar as well; but want to get some nice leather collars in the future before getting those kinda tags.

I use these people. The tags last forever and I've only had to replace them for updating new phone numbers, etc. They've got the flat collar tags and shaped ones too.

You legally still have to have a tag with your details as well as the Keepsafe one :)

I've picked up two dogs recently that were running loose near where I live. Neither were wearing tags, so I had to go through the whole palaver of reporting them and getting the Dog Warden out.

In both cases they turned out to be local dogs who had run off/escaped - if I'd had their address or phone number I could have delivered them back home within minutes.

In one case the owner was very snotty about the fact I'd handed his dog to the DW (after I'd saved it from getting run over on a main road, I might add  ) because his phone number was written on the inside of the collar. Apparently I should have thought to take the dog's collar off and check

I ordered two of my tags from the internet...but had Archies done only yesterday at Pets at home £5.50 for a blue bone shape..with 4 lines..dogs name...address and phone number....only trouble is the machine cant turn the tags over so you can only have one side engraved.

But it was great watching the machine engrave it - very good. :)

The ones my two currently have was done with one of those machines, they lasted about 6 months. Though my two wear two tags (id tag and license tag) so all the jangling together might not have helped. They're really worn out and scratched looking now.

I think I'm gonna go with the one Hilary mentions, Identitag. Someone mentioned on another forum that they've had tags from them for 6 years and they're still looking good. Only problem is that they don't take paypal payments. So I'll have to talk sweet to my sister to get a lend of her card, or failing that, post off some postal orders.

Got the tags from the website Hilary recommended. They look great.

Delivery took a bit longer than I expected (perhaps cos I'm in Northern Ireland?) But appart from that I;m well pleased.

Thanks for the recommendation.
