Good Morning Everyone,

I'm brand new to the board (hi!) and was writing to inquire whether anyone could put me in contact with someone that knew of any expected IG litters? Our own dear sweet IG, Dixie, recently passed away and though she can never be replaced :( , we very much want to give another puppy a stable, loving and caring home. Having owned Italian Greyhounds for over 12 years, so we're fully aware that Italian Greyhounds are a unique breed that require LOTS of love and cuddles, cozy warm blankies, sweaters and bed (ours :)) ). We also know there needs to be lots of time and effort put into things such as brushing teeth everyday and their difficulties in the potty training department :b ;) ,etc.

I completely understand that you may be suspicious of people who post to enquire about puppies, it's just that being new to the UK IG community, I was hoping you could help by pointing me in the right direction. To tell you a little about my husband and I...we live in Surrey, in our own house with a securely fenced garden surrounded by plenty of wonderful trails, parks and green spaces for long walks and fresh air. Our work schedules allow for one of us to nearly always be home, so the puppy would never ever be alone for long periods. As for the puppy, we would have no intention of breeding or showing the puppy we ONLY want to provide a warm and loving home with parents that would adore and spoil her rotten :huggles: .

Having done quite a deal of research, I've come to discover that Italian Greyhounds are indeed very rare in England (I'm originally from Virginia, US and already had our little Dixie when I moved to England a year ago) so my husband and I realize that we may have to wait some time for the opportunity of a litter and are prepared to travel quite a distance. If you could PM me with any information (or questions that you may have for me) that would help us find this much desired new member of the family  , my husband and I would be truly grateful. Thank you so very much.

Kindest Regards,

Stephanie and James

P.S. Sorry if that was way too much info - I just wanted you all to know we have the best intentions! :D

I can't help with info but I think a pic of Dixie is a must. Welcome to the board. :D

Well of-course you did and I think you were right!

What an adorable little girl

Run free, Dixie :huggles:

Welcome to K9, you guys, and I hope you can find the iggy pup you need to fill the space in your bed that Dixie has left :huggles:

aww Dixie really was a pretty girl

:luck: with you search for your new friend

Well, you're definitely in the right place Stephanie!

IGs are indeed quite rare over here, but with the eyes and ears of the K9ers on your side, you should at least find a place to start your enquiries.

Dixie looks like she was a real cutie, no wonder you fell in love with the breed :D

Hi Steph, welcome to K9

What a lovely opening post - you sound like you really understand what iggies are like, and your Dixie looked a real little minx (reminds me of my Zoe :- " ) you must miss her very much :huggles:

I'm not a breeder so am unable to help you that way, but I can give some advice - please don't rush into getting a puppy from the first person you meet! And be suspicious of anyone who askes for huge sums of cash!!!!!

You are new to the breed in this country and things here might be different from what you knew all those years ago when you first got your pretty little Dixie :(

If you read back over the threads on this forum you will find lots of bits and pieces of info, go to some shows, get to see the dogs out there and meet some breeders and owners - and be prepared for a long wait! -_-

But anything worth having is worth waiting for . . . . . good luck :luck:

Hi and welcome to K9. I'm afraid I cannot offer any help, but just wanted to say how beautiful your little Dixie was.  I can see why you fell in love with Iggies.

You will find people on here will give you excellent advice and help, and there is a wealth of information on K9. As Doris said, be very wary about people advertising Iggies for vast amounts of money. :(

Good luck, and when you do get your puppy, we need plenty of photos. :huggles:

What a stunning girl - she must have left a very large hole in your life for such a small dog :huggles:

Hope you find another little someone to share your life

Actually, in my opinion, someone selling IG pups for 1,000+ would sell to just about anyone- to my mind, anyone charging that much for an IG is only in it for the money :(

There is no reason AT ALL that a well bred IG pup, from healthy and robust lines, should cost much more than 500-600 pounds (sorry- pound sign not working!)

Most reputable breeders have no need to advertise- they have a waiting list, but I would say the best thing to do is to visit a show ( I think you have said that Windsor is near to you) and talk to breeders, see what lines you like the look of etc. Also it's a good idea to visit the breeder's homes and see how the dogs are kept- steer clear of dogs kept mainly in cages and not allowed to free run, as this would indicate to me that there was a problem with potential leg breaks

You are wecome to PM me for further information if you wish

I write this from an owners point of view not a breeders

I have paid a lot of money for Italian greyhounds and I am happy to do so as i think they are worth every penny.

You can pay almost £500 for a whippet nevermind an IG

What is wrong with people asking a reasonable price?

And also how on earth do you equate that because somebody is charging a large amount of money for a dog it means they will sell to anybody, i think if you give away a dog or sell it, it is irrelevant to how it will be treated. Cost does not come into it. When I re-home dogs money means nothing, apart from the ability to feed and cater to the dogs lifelong needs

I think somebody should inform you old timers that prices do inflate-no disrespect intended

I know somebody that recently paid £2000 for a bulldog, i think an ig is a bargain at £1000 +, and i am far from well off.

To my mind if you are serious about owning an IG one cway you can best prove how much you love and want to own the breed is by saving until you can afford one.

They are worth what people will pay

You people really annoy me with your bitching

If you know anybody selling ig's for £500 tell them ill have a thousand

hi i understand what you are saying but people do jump on the band wagon and sell these little dogs without breeding properly which can and does often result in these poor little dogs having all sorts of problems if a reputable breeder charges say £500 for a well bred healthy iggy why should people rip you off by charging more it doesnt make sense to megod knows why people pay it in the first place

If money doesn't come into it, then why is it reasonable to charge over a grand for a dog?????

I think you miss the point - people who charge this sort of money are responding to 'supply and demand', not a term that you want to hear being used when talking about breeding, surely?

"no disrespect intended"? While typing comments like "You people really annoy me with your bitching" and "If you know anybody selling ig's for £500 tell them ill have a thousand" . . . . . me thinks not! :- "
