Hi Everyone,

I have two pedigree (KC Reg) whippets that I think I would like to try at racing. I have to apologise for sounding vague, but I have absolutely no idea where to start, and also whether one will be able to do it!

Ollie has had a puppy run at BSFA coursing in Newbury, and thoroughly enjoyed it. He was very keen and I know he would revel in a race. Both his parents raced. Jake on the other hand is show bred and really quite lazy  He enjoys coursing Ollie, but not sure how he would respond to the lure.

I am also concerned that Ollie might not like the traps as I have done no training with him at all :b He is 14 months old and Jake is 12 months old.

We went to watch racing at Andover on one occasion last year, and thought it was fantastic. I am happy to travel, but also show Jake so will have to juggle things I think :- "

Had a good talk with a few people on chat the other night, and this has encouraged me to come on here and see where to go from here.

So, any help would be gratefully received. Iam in Bracknell in Berkshire.

Thanks in advance

Tracy

Have you any clubs near you Tracy because I'm sure they'd welcome you to have a go and offer good advice, we would certainly welcome you at the Lancashire(don't know how far away we are from you probably a long way) you'll find most clubs would honour your showing commitments and not expect you to go every week.

You could take ollie along to watch and get used to the noises of the traps ect and he would be introduced to them slowly, I'm sure when they get a feel for the lure and the atmosphere they won't be lazy (w00t)

Mine sleep most of the time, very lazy, but show them a lure and they're away (w00t)

Good luck :luck: :luck:

There is a club in Oxford if you was intrested in coming there. We race every other Sunday through out the year and there are always plenty of people around to help and give advice.

hi,can you give me some contact details for the club as we have our first whip pup (10wks so too young as yet) and are keen to race. Oxford would be good for us as family close by for after race snacks!!!

If you want to look on the RACING SECTION of the Whippet Club web-site on www.thewhippetclub.com there is a contacts list of all the affiliated clubs throughout the country, with phone no.'s for the secretaries and details from some of the clubs on venues, times of racing etc.

I'm sure any of them would be pleased to hear from you. Good luck!

it's nice to see the Whippet Club site being updated with racing info now.

Do keep going Lure Coursing at Newbury. Season starts March and the hounds love it. We have a slow show bred who excells at lure coursing due to being so keen!!!!!!!!! he is sooooooo slow at racing, but lure coursing is about so much more. It is great for the dogs and the people are friendly too. Do visit Oxford for trialing practice and see how you go, it all helps and the whippets adore it all.

Wishing you and your pointy noses fun and happiness. (You might just spot team fawn whoppet at lure coursing, aka Rae and Joanna/Lloyd Archie and Star

I haven't forgotten your directions (w00t) Where abouts are you and which way would you come into Oxford?

Hi Dan,

I am in Berkshire (Bracknell) if you PM the address I can put it in the Sat Nav. Alternatively, if you can give me directions from the BMW Plant (MINI) then I should be able to find it as I am a facilities manager for BMW at their head office, so I know how to get to the MINI plant (w00t) :- "

Thanks

Tracy

No, but I probably know about a thousand people who do (w00t) (w00t)

What time will you be meeting? Can I buy a cup of tea, or do I have to bring my own ( like to find out the important things you know :- " )

People get there for around 11 or just after in my case and we generally finish around 2. Theres no refresments available so its best to bring yourself something to eat & drink.
