Hi all. We live in Cornwall and have a gorgeous golden Labrador cross. She is a rescue dog and we have owned her for ten months. She is an absolute treasure. We tried her with a pork bone today and she has shown no interest. Is this normal? Our previous dogs loved them. Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for the advice. I tried a bone as she has not had one from us. As with regards to delicious treats, no problem there!
We will put the bone out again today and see if she is interested.

Welcome! Some dogs can be unsure what a bone is at first... they have been known to playbow and bark at them Be aware that hard bones (recreational as opposed to edible) can damage teeth...

Pork bones are not enjoyed by our lot as much as others, they will eat them, but take their time swapping with each other until they think they each have the right one.
Pork bones in general are not as hard as some of the weight bearing beef bones, pigs are very young when killed somewhere around 4 months for pork and a few more weeks for bacon size, from what I remember.
Try a red meat bone for her if pork does not work. Ribs are always good, nice long ones are best.

Hi jJohnd! My terrier won’t eat bones either, just sniffs and walks away but have problems with her eating anyway would like to try her on raw chicken wings but knowing Lily she would leave it.....

Hello and welcome.. Murphy is funny when it comes to bones.. He eats raw so you would think he would be ok but no. He will eat a duck wing or a chicken back, a turkey neck or an Ostrich bone, he will even chew an antler but give him anything else lamb leg , pork bone, even deer bone and he runs off and tried to hide it, moving it from place to place but never acutally chewing on it..
Dogs are funny and each has their preference.. It just a case of finding out what yours is.

Thank you. Cornwall is nice with a good selection of dog friendly beaches. Beach is one our dogs trigger words! Only used when we know that we can keep our promise as she has a good memory and holds us to it.

Just love Cornwall, we go to the Roseland two or three times a year just so we can go on the beautiful beaches ( Lily us at her happiest on the beach) often visit the north coast while we’re there, everywhere is so easy to get to! Which part are you from?

We are living in West Cornwall nearer to the South coast beaches but Newquay is not out of reach. Fistral beach(Newquay) is dog friendly all year round much to my surprise as if I were not a dog lover, I might object to dogs in the Summer season. By the way - we also like the Roseland.

I’m quite surprised Fistral is dog friendly with all those surfers about ! We love Crantock at low tide, lovely shallow pools for dogs to play in. Would love to live there , you’re very lucky

We took her to Kynance Cove this morning. There were lots of shallow pools left behind by the ebb tide. She wasted no time in using them. We must visit Crantock some time.

Yes only dog friendly after October. We have discovered the beach at Long Rock near Marazion. Open to dogs all year and plentiful car parking. It does not have the charm of some of the other beaches but the dogs love it.

We love Perranporth once you get beyond the busy bit - the beachside bar there is awesome! We also had a great week in October staying in Tehidy, with all the local beaches open for dogs. Such a lovely part of the world.
