Hi folks
I don't usually post on the IG forum because I don't own an IG - BUT I thought you would find this interesting.
My older sister Lindsey has been extremely deaf since the age of 11 due to a natural abnormality in her ears and has always had to use very powerful hearing aids to get by. She is married in to the RAF and has two young children which means that not only is her husband away for long periods of time in Afghanistan and Iraq, but she also has to be mindful of the kids when she can't actually hear what they are doing when they are out of sight. This is obviously a great worry to her along with the every day stresses of leading a life without clear sound.
Well, Lindsey has also always been a fan of Italian Greyhounds and has had several over the years (5 I think) from a lady whom I'm sure many of you have come across before called Linnet Loh. Well this year I'm pleased to announce that Sunny has passed his final exams to become a fully trained Hearing Dog for Deaf People 8) I believe he is the first IG to achieve this and everybody was amazed that he took to the very demanding training so well. He had to go away for about three months to a training school to be taught the basics which was difficult for Lindsey because visits were not allowed until near the end of his training. He can now alert Lindsey to the doorbell, the smoke alarm, the telephone etc and anybody can tell him to "fetch Lindsey" or "fetch mum" and he will go running to get her and bring her back with him. When he puts on his uniform his whole demeanor changes and he knows he's at work, then when it comes off he goes back to a bouncy IG!
Here is Sunny wearing his "uniform" which effectively qualifies him as a guide dog so he can go in to shops and things. My sister is holding him.
I'm afraid I don't know any more details, but if anybody has questions I can pass them on!
thanks
Graham
