We went out last night and when we came back we found Josephine had got out of her crate. She had crapped on the floor, peed on the floor, counter-surfed and eaten an pat of butter and all the fat that I had left in a bowl from skimming off the top of some stock I was making, thrown up a lot of the fat and eaten some of it again. Oh and broken a bottle of vinegar. So you can imagine the smell was fairly unpleasant.
When I went down to let them out this morning she could hardly breathe. It was like she was trying to breathe through water. So I booked her into the vets at the first possible opportunity. While we were waiting to go to the vets she was sick. I have never come quite such unpleasant vomit. It actually made me throw up twice (and I have a fairly tough stomach about that sort of thing), so poor OH had to clear it up.
Got to the vet and she listened to her chest, took her temperature etc and said she had given herself pneumonia. Apparently eating that much fat it very dangerous because it makes them sick and when they throw it up if form little particles which they then breathe in and this goes to their lungs which leads to pneumonia.
So poor Josie is feel very sorry for herself.
