I grind my dogs nails with great success so don't give up too easily. You might want to look at this website which helped me get started

Good luck

thanks for that link, makes good sense to take it very slowly

I wouldn't be without my dremel. :)

I can't cut Fred's nails at all as he screams and struggles :b , and finally bought a dremel.

I kept feeding him treats when i switched it on, and then offered him a treat again if he let me touch his nail with it....and so on and so on. Slowly does it and you'll get there :luck:

rubbed a little cheese on the dremel and just been round all 6 of them, they are very interested in it yay  ,ive touched all their paws with it and they didnt pull away so will keep up with it for a week or some before trying it,thanks for the advise

Wild Whippies once showed some pictures of how she used the dremmel on her dogs, it was great advice and inspired me to get one. I'll see if I can find the link.

 Don't worry they will soon get used to it.

I can only dremmel my dogs nails know they hate they clippers, even Little Mia doesn't mind  all the others just lay with legs in the air sound asleep.

Plus i was always a little nervouse with clippers :- "

Just take it slow with lots of praise

Mmm looks a handy little item :))

Mine HATE having there's done with the Dremel (well fake Dremel from Aldi :b ) I can jsut about manage to do the back ones, but the front ones? No chance!

We find it far easier to use the clippers. Jo does them, just sits them on her knee and they're fine, well some better than others :- "

Polly screams blue murder if i go anywhere near her nails with anything at all. :( She collapsed after the vet cut them (with the help of me and 2 nurses) and was in shock - 'vacant' and pale gums for about 4 hours afterwards. Now she hates the vet and trembles like mad whenever she goes to see him.

I bought a fake dremmel in the hope that it would help, but as she scarpers if i even put on a tiny hand held battery fan (to keep me cool) I don't hold out any hope for getting near her with the dremmel, though i'll follow advise on here and put food on it and feed her treats if she'll sit beside it!!

The other two are quite happy to let me clip all of their claws with dog clippers!!

Polly will just have to wait until she needs surgery for something else - have got them cut twice that way in the past, but it is a bit drastic!! (w00t)

our phoebe is going the same way as your polly, she as started to work herself up at the sight of the clippers, and i dont know why as she use to be so good, will try with this dremel and see how it goes, ive managed to touch kiplins claws with it while it was on and he seems fine, and oliver looks at me gone mad  the others are going to take awhile to come round. ;)

Heres a tip for you for what its worth, dunno about other folks dogs, but jill never liked her paws being handled, so what i did was sit her on my lap and handled her paws, nightime on the settee, played with her paws, her now loves it, and am able to clip away merrily

phoebes ok with having her paws touched its just she runs a mile at the sight of the clippers

good tip though keith, our vets advised us the touching their paws from a early age to make there lives easier if they need to deal with injurys, also we touch there ears and mouths.

I use a fake dremmel on my lot although I've not tried it on the pups yet and I can't do Zoe's with it as all her hair gets tangled in it.

I find it easiest to put them on the grooming table to do their claws

I will watch this with interest as Izzy hates the clippers, I hate even trying to cut her nails these days, she didn't mind when tiny :(
