Some of you may remember hearing of Katie's thyroid op back in the autumn. She's been doing reasonably well with her kidney disease since, but we're off to the vets this afternoon on what may turn out to be her last journey. :'( It's a really hard decision to make because, although she's getting very frail, she's still eating, seeking out the sun spots and coming for cuddles, but she has had two nasty fits this week and it's for that reason that I think it may be kinder to say goodbye now. Her appointment is at 1.45pm. She's had a lovely long life at nearly 20 and I thought I was calm about it but even writing this is making me tearful. :( She's been through so many house moves with us and seen a number of other pets come and go which makes it a very difficult time for us. And it'll be the first time since we got married (in 1981) that we will be catless.

so sorry gillian to hear about katie, its always the hardest to say goodbye :(

thinking of you all today :huggles:

So sorry to read this Gillian. It's exactly how I felt about Tizer, I thought I was prepared for it but it was still incredibly painful. I do know that it was the right thing to do for Tizer and I am sure that you will do the right thing by Katie and you will know if the time is right to say goodbye. :(

You were so lovely to me when we lost Tizer earlier in the week too, so thank you. :huggles:

Oh Gillian - what a tough time for you - be thinking about you lots today :huggles:

Oh Gillian I'm sorry to hear this. Thinking of you and Katie now :huggles:

:( Oh Gillian, I'm so, so sorry. She has had a wonderful life with you.

Thinking of you and your family this afternoon :huggles: :huggles:

Katie is gone. :'( It was a really difficult decision as she was still so alert, but it's quite likely that, with the fits, and at her age, she had a tumour. We doubt whether she would have gone on much longer and at least now, she won't deteriorate any more and start really suffering.

We brought her home and buried her in the garden, quite close to Josh, our old whippet. Muffin seems really down. :( We left Katie in the car while Richard dug a grave and Muffin stood outside barking - he knew she was there. We let them sniff her before we buried her - Muffin had a good sniff and just turned away. I'm sure he realises - he's a sensitive boy! Jonah doesn't appear to understand as much.

I was surprised how upset I was (and am) as I thought I'd come to terms with what was about to happen but I suppose, she's been around for 20 years so we've been through a lot together. I keep looking at the sunspots that she loved to lie in, but she's not there any more.:'( Funnily enough, Muffin is lying in the very same spot. :huggles: I must look out some pictures to post of when she was young. She was a lovely old cat.

 RIP my lovely old girl, Katie

Gillian, I know just how you are feeling right now, so my heart goes out to you.

She sounds like such a special old lady and she had the most wonderful 20 years with you.

RIP sweet Katie :huggles:

I,m so sorry :( thinking of you at a sad time :huggles: :huggles:

So sorry to hear about Katie, but you have made the kindest decision not to let her deteriorate any further. :(

Time is a great healer, and hopefully in the future you will be able to remember all the good times you had with her, and not feel as sad and upset as you feel at the moment. She had a lovely long life with you and was obviously a very much loved cat. :huggles: :huggles:

RIP Katie :huggles:

So sorry to hear about Katie, it's horrible having to make that decision isn't it? We had to do the same with our old ginger cat Baggins at the end of last year.

Now summer seems to have arrived there is a big ginger gap on the rockery where he used to sunbathe :( We buried him in his favourite sunny place so he's still there really as I'm sure Katie will be with you also.

So sorry to hear about your cat Katie. :( You well know, I'm sure, how much we all feel for you on K9, as we have all been there at some point, and sadly will again. :(

I'm sure you will miss Katie dreadfully, but when time passes, you will have so many happy memories of her much loved life with you. :huggles:
