I had to take Billie for her yearly boosters last week. She is good and doesn't flinch about the injection, however it is another story for the kennel cough drops. Over the years it went like that:
Year 1: looked surprised, sneezed, gave the eye to the vet
Year 2: Hid her nose under my armpit as soon in the surgery, wriggled a lot
Year 3: Had to be forcibly held in a corner of the surgery, took 3 tries to complete
Year 4: Could not hold her in the corner surgery, had to go for full sedation...
The dog is so distressed that i doubt she will let the vet touch her face for any other treatment, and her state of anxiety at the vet will not help. I am dreading next year. I mostly leave her at friends when on holiday but if I require emergency cover I may need to leave her at a kennel, so I have to get her the vaccine.
Do other owners have such a problem with the vaccine?
Apparently they do an injectable form of the kennel cough vaccine in Australia, does anybody know how come it is not accepted in the UK, and who can we lobby regarding the matter?
Thanks
Gael
