Say hello Kev.

I’m hoping someone may have some experience in this areas as I’m clueless. Kev is 14 weeks old and last Wednesday was taken to the vets as he had a red eye (we thought it might be cherry eye). He’s been in ICU ever since and the vets are 90% sure that he has GME.

I have very little knowledge on this subject and really dont know what to do. Any advise/insights would be most appreciated. Thanks

Poor lad. And what a worry. But he is in the best place. You might want to give your insurer a call in case he needs a specialist referral; some insurers have restricted lists of which specialists you can use.

Just out of interest have you contacted your breeder? Just to see if they have any knowledge of the rest of the litter, if any of the other pups have problems and what their outcomes have been ..

Poor guy, I am going to give you an understanding on what GME is and treatment for it.
GME is an inflammation affecting the brain, the spinal cord and the meninges. The symptoms can range from Seizures, walking in circles, blindness, tilted head to facial abnormalities, tremors, wobbliness, and weakness. Out of what I have put above would you say your puppy has?
For this to be diagnosed properly the puppy would need to under go an operation on the brain tissue, I am confused of how the vets are so convinced without doing an biopsy. If you are being told without your puppy having a full diagnosis done then they are incorrect. This should bring you some relief, because if you google GME, you will find very discouraging information. Your puppy could have a Necropsy done and it is a way that vets can definitively diagnose GME because they are examining the brain under a microscope. As you have said that you think it is GME, your puppy would be best by being seen by a veterinary neurologist they can have a consultation with them and they should be able to do an exam on your pup. a ''necropsy'' is autopsy, after death!! Maybe you mean biopsy Violet? It seems this condition can't be diagnosed for sure without a brain biopsy, there is always hope...He is a beautiful boy,fingers crossed for you all

He had a red eye and just wasn’t himself. Whilst he’s been at the vets he’s had a mini seizure.

The did a spinal tap & X-rays on Thursday (29th March). Then started on steroids on Saturday evening. He’s on an IV and ant acids.

The vet said today that he is currently dependent upon oxygen.

I spoke with the breeder who hadn’t said anything about the other pups in the litter having it. He offeeed it speak to the vets for us as all this is new to us.

@JoanneF I didn't know what you meant what I also mean by the google part is that if you google it it most likely says that the puppy will die some cases yes but most not, baby brain is kicking in...
