the track wasnt perfect but still better than a lot of tracks around the country :( and if this venue is kept im sure with more work from people it will be spot on ;) cant see any venue to better it myself ;)

After talking to the owner he is quite happy for the track to be fenced off with the orange netting and wooden signs made stating KEEP OFF, he also suggested fencing the track off permanently but this would be at our own cost...

Someone went to see the golf grounds man today and he will be happy to re-seed the track and maintain it at what cost i do not know yet

In addition to toilets portable showers can be ordered also

I thought it was a good place especially for people with family's as there was plenty for them to do , and even though the pub area was small everyone i spoke to was very friendly

As we are aware camping venues are getting harder to find and easier to loss... if this one is to be kept some of the AT members are willing to give up there own time to work on the track ... i think they did a fantastic job in the few weeks they had on the ground ..it was very much appreciated from most people i spoke to

Makes me wonder what exactly people want and proves how hypocrital some people really are when you see the state of tracks people are willing to run on regularly. Having run at 2 sub standard tracks (& where dogs have come off injured at that!) in the last month i know which i'd prefer to run on, how many dogs came off with toe & stopper injuries this weekend? How many dogs couldn't stop in time and had to run into boulders / over a gravel path?

HOW MANY PEOPLE PUT THEIR MONEY WHERE THERE MOUTH WAS & WITHDREW THEIR DOGS WITH CONCERNS FOR THEIR SAFETY?

Heard a few times this weekend that the track wasn't up to championship standard. If we want to go down that route then why are people willing to run their dogs at club opens on poor surfaces when after all the dogs are doing the same speed whether it be champs or a two bit open?

I thought the nightlife was fab, yeh the pub is small but there is seating outside and was generally made to feel welcome by the staff, other championship & big classic tracks have little or no facilities for socialising (and with poor welfare facilities) especially for people with children yet we've always made the most of it.

I had other issues which i raised with a committee member on Monday morning face to face, certainly wouldn't whinge about it all day without voicing my opinions to the organisation concerned and doing something about it.

we had a great weekend even though our dog was unable to race due to being injured. there was something there for everyone, (even swamp snorkeling lessons by pocket without a snorkel) (w00t) (w00t) (w00t) (w00t) (w00t) whoever the people were who worked on the track preperation should be thanked im sure they did there best in the short UNPAID time they had.

The track you RAN on was not the first choice, the one that hd been worked on sufferd from water loggging so the track you RAN on had to be got ready at short notice with a lot of hard work by all concerned. I know what its like trying to get a track up to something like a reasonable standard having done Swallownest for two years with more notice than the A+T gang had after the waterlogging of the other track, no it was'nt perfect what is. to put it another way if Lynda ran her dogs it cant have been that bad. IF it was closer to us i could garantee a good tack next year. This is not having a dig at anyone you are all entitled to your opinion Les

well done the A&T crew sorry i could not help out with the track .now i have transport if you need me for anything give me a call we were there on saterday and saw how much work was put in on the track and the racing was brill looking forward to the next time at the track

Personally I couldn't care less about the pub, nightlife etc. We always manage to have a laugh and a good crack with friends whether there is a pub or not. Yeah its good fun at big events to all get together at night and have the presentation there however it isn't a huge concern of mine what the pub is like.

As my children are now grown I don't have to worry about entertaining them when racing is on however have had to do so for many of the previous years when they were small and I know that kids get bored easily especially during racing days so it is a good idea if possible to get somewhere with other things for the kids.

My main concern when I go racing is the track I think that this weekend the track was patchy the grass as stated was rough and I was a bit dissappointed with it. However i made the decision to run my dogs and got on with it. i am glad that the owner of the ground is willing to help us out to make the track better for the future.

One last comment I think when people have differant opinions on things whether it be track nightlife whatever its a good thing, not something to get into a argument about they are after all only opinions.

we had a great time with the nutters ie stevie conneor dick dot decca chrissy etc etc loads of stuff to do loved the ducks and donkeys lol

VICKYYOU ARE OBVIOUSLY REFERING TO OUR TWO BIT JAN KEEBLE WEEKEND.

PLEASE CONSIDER

HOW MANY OPENS CARRY AN EXTRA GRAND PRIZE MONEY.

A FANTASTIC ARRAY OF TROPHIES COMPARABLE WITH ANY OPEN.

WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE SHORT RUN OFF BECAUSE THIS WAS A CHANGE OF VENUE AT RELATIVELY SHORT NOTICE.WE COULD HAVE RUN AT THURROCK WHERE WE COULD CATER FOR 200YDS BUT OUT OF OUR HANDS WE COULDNT CAMP.WE DIDNT WANT TO DISSAPPOINT ANY WHIPPETEERS WHO HAD BOOKED THE WEEKEND OFF AND THE COMMITEE AND MEMBERS WORKED HARD TO GET THE TRACK TO A DECENT LEVEL IT WASNT UP TO OUR NORMAL HIGH STANDARDS.

BUT ANSWER ME WHY DID YOU RUN YOUR PUP MO CARLIN AND HUNKY ON SUCH CONDITIONS.

WHY DID YOU RUN MOCHARA IN THE JAN KEEBLE AND THEN ON THE MONDAY WHERE SHE SKATED THE SHEILA WEBB CHARITYOPEN.

WHY ARE YOU WHINGING NOW INSTEAD OF LETTING YOUR FEELINGS KNOWN TO COMMITEE MEMBERS WHO WHERE CLEARING UP ON MONDAY OR TUESDAY AFTER RACING.

IVE ALREADY THANKED THE NNWRF COMMITEE AND WORKERS FOR SUCH A GREAT WEEKEND RACING IN EXCELLANT SURROUNDINGS.PEOPLE ARE ENTITLED TO THERE OPINIONS WHICH WE DONT AGREE WITH BUT THATS LIFE.MAKING DETRIMENTAL REMARKS ABOUT OTHER OPENS IS COUNTERPRODUCTIVE AND DOESNT TAKE WHIPPET RACING FORWARD IN MY OPINION.

WELL SAID ROB

Opinions are exactly that 'opinions' and everyone has a right to state their own opinion, whether we have the same view or differing ones its a shame that we always go back to the same backbiting and childish 'ours is better than yours' routine after events and before too. I have to say after racing all my life i have raced my dogs on far worse and far better tracks than Southport, but to be honest i made my decision to run my dogs so whatever the result was it was my decision and i only have myself to stand accountable to, no one forces anyone to enter a race meeting whether it be champs, open or club race.

The club was small, but again my opinion only, a club isn't NEEDED (can be fun) but not needed.

Enterntainment for children same as above

Toilets a must could have been better but again i have been to places with none

Showers again this wasnt the best arrangement but well ...... spose roughing it for a day or two at the most can just about live with :(

Food was available if needed on the field and Domino's Pizza was lovely, short drive down the road agreed girls, sorry and Ants :p

Plenty of space for vans/tents/cars etc. the weather is in the hands of the gods we can't change that so if a bit wet underfoot wear your bloody wellies :p

Sorry not making light of the champs weekend (I enjoyed it) and dont want to upset anyone i'm just trying to say lets get on with it and make the most of the venues available to us, cos lets face it we aint got the choice that we used to have. I personally would love to find a place where we could run two tracks again like back at Measham, that atmosphere was electric everyone together on the same day no worries about if you raced dogs and bitches, no worries about camping, showers and all that kind of stuff and presentation on field afterwards - ok i'm turning back the clock but you know what it would save quite alot of organising !!!!!!! :D

Opinions over :D :D

Well done the Comm. for the weekend. No the track wasn't the best but how many of us run our dogs during the week on fields much worse, I know i do. No dogs came off really hurt, I know of a couple came off lame my own included but again it happens anywhere. The only thing I said to a comm. member was about the lure. personally I think every club should have a big white lure not a onion bag and a couple of strands. The comm. were let down with this so couldn't be helped. No one can help the weather but once the sun came out the field dried out quick. the only down side for me was my own dog rellabelle eating a 1/2lb of butter on the fri. night and was very bad on Sat. which worried me a bit but by Sunday he was well again apart from a bad throat from being sick all sat. And the best part was my mam not killing me and my dad when we came home with Red and Matilda 2 pointer layer hens. :D
