Just realised it was on the 11th Dec last year that we got Lily. She was rescuse from horrible circumstances - as near to death as any whippet I've ever rescue, were the words of the JR Whippet Rescue lady who brought her to us Lily lives with my friend, Bea, next door). She was then 13 years old and being starved to death by the wife of her owner, who had himself died.

This is the coat we got for her first -she came with nothing at all.

She spent her first night - and every night since, in Bea's bed!! :thumbsup:

We are so pleased with her progress - she is the oldest and bossiest of the 4 whippies we have between us and we love her so much. Oldies are to be treasured.

so pleased Lily is having a new lease of life. I'm sure I remember you posting about her, when you first got her (unless my memory is playing tricks on me - wouldn't be the first time).

I agree - oldies should be treasured. I know Lily's circumstances were different, but I can never understand why people would put an older dog into rescue so they could get a new puppy "for the kids" or whatever reason they have - to me, a dog that has outgrown puppyhood and is housetrained etc, is worth its weight in gold!

I know puppies are gorgeous, (I do love them, as much as anyone else does) and training them is just commonsense etc, but I would rather have my "grown up" dog any day.

Yes, I did post about Lily when we first got her - so sad that she was left to eat her own excreta and the second wife (who disliked dogs) had the gall to say she was so thin and weak because she was pining for her owner - she just wasn't being fed, except when the housekeeper (who got Whippet Rescue involved) fed her.

Our Willow, the one in bed with her, was dumped, blind and in bad pain from a jaw infection so he couldn't eat, in the middle of Hereford. He also was painfully thin and so bewildered when Bea got him about 10 weeks ago. Now he is filling out and finding his way round so well. Lily looks after him!!

Neither Bea nor I are young or fit enough to take on a puppy any more (unfortunately - they are so sweet), but we'll go on adopting oldies as long as we are able. :thumbsup:

:huggles: I cherish my oldies to bits, how can people be so nasty?? I have 3 generations in my house, my oldies always teach the younger ones manners too!!
