Just recently had to have my lurcher put to sleep (greyhound/collie x) and I'm looking at now getting a whippet (or two if I can persuade the missus)

Our lurcher wasnt a problem with being left at home for 3 days a week while we were at work and he was great with the cats that we have and just ignored the chickens who roam around the garden.

We are not sure how a rescue would cope with cats/chickens so we are looking at getting a younger dog that we could train to not chase the chickens as the cats can take care of themselves.

So theres a few questions...

Are whippets easy enough to train?

Would getting 2 be better for when we are at work or are they like our lurcher used to be and spend most of the day asleep?

and the big one...

Are there any reputable breeders round the Wolverhampton area?

cheers for any advice

Sorry to hear of your loss :(

The main reason why I chose a puppy rather than a rescue was to make sure I could socialise him with cats and poultry at an early stage. Cats were fine, but it did take about 18 months before he could be trusted with poultry and now is completely safe with them, and even wild waterfowl. On the other hand, some rescues will have histories for some of their dogs, will have assessed their behaviour to some degree and be able advise which individuals might be best for your situation.

Goodluck :luck:

Sorry to hear about your lurcher, its so sad as they are family members.

Our boy ,Jack ,died 11th Dec 05(he is the blue dude in red collar ) and we got two in the following feb. Then we also got a Hungarian Viszla bitch. She rules!

They are wonderful.Best medicine. They are crate trained, can get great crates on ebay. They are fine together aslong as they been feed, watered and walked(plus lots of cuddles :- " )

Some people will agree that litter mates are fab together some wont, however everyone is entitled to own opinion.

Peeps do things their way they wish,we are all different. As long as you and dogs are happy. :huggles: Good luck searching and remember we want to see pictures

Any chance that this post could be moved to the lurcher forum as I dont want to clog this one up?
