i am looking for a forever home for my 3 year old whippet Macy, I have advertised her and had several replys, but how do you know who to trust to give her the kind of life that she has here.

i have 2 other dogs that I am keeping, one a whippet and one a pappillon, the reason I have decide to find a new home for Macy is we are going to live in Cyprus and my other two dogs are very laid back and probably wont mind the flying too much but Macy is very very nervous of loud noises especially thunder so I do not think it will be fair to subject her to a long flight when she will probably have a nerveous breakdown.

[mod edit] She is spayed and microchipped and is very dainty and fast with a beautiful face, she is brindle and white, she would do well with another whippet friend and lots of cosy nights tucked up in the warmth, I also think she will make a lovely companion dog as long as she gets her run off the lead every day so she can chase the squirrells and rabbits.

Please can anyone help.

rather than find a home for a much loved pet,why not talk to your vet about maybe tranquilising her for the journey? :) im sure its a much better option than rehoming her just to stop stressing her out due to a flight.the flight will be over and done with in a day and she will be able to spend many happy years with you after that.

What a very hard decision. I have to say that I know what it's like to have a dog like that. I could never put Savannah on a plane as she is so terrified of noises like that that she'd be dead before it ever left the ground. She panics THAT much! And it's not advisable to sedate a dog for a flight because they do have to balance themselves during turbulence etc or they could be seriously injured. Most airlines and vets will advise against it.

There are a few posts on the board looking to take on an older whippet needing rehomed, so perhaps pm those.

As for knowing who is genuine - I think a lot of it is gut instinct... But no one should be offended if you were to ask for references, or if you wanted to see their home.

Best of luck

Wendy

Well you have come to the right place that's for sure but what a dreadful decision to have to make :(

You know her better than anyone. I'm sure that you will find a loving home for her soon.

Having said that. I brought a fear aggressive dog home from Greece a couple of years ago. He was sedated and slept in the front of a truck amongst all the lorries on a ferry from Greece to Italy. After 8 hours, he was still whoozy and didn't appear to have suffered at all :))

It's such a shame if she is afraid of the loud noises and it's really not worth the risk IMO.

Lots of wonderful homes waiting for a little whippet :huggles:

Good Luck

We had an inquiry about a pup from some people in Cyprus. They were dsperate for a whippet and there are apparently no whippet breeders in Cypus. You cannot buy them over there

This is a very hard decision.

I'd never like to think that I'd part with any of my dogs but rescued/rehomed dogs (we've had 6 in total) DO settle happily into new homes and I'm sure if you find the right home for her she'll be happy for the rest of her days.

Good luck.

Aren't there any air lines that would let you pay for a seat and she could travel next to you in a soft crate just a little bit sedated ? or am I being too naive :b

Our cousins rehomed a spaniel in Dubai and when they came back home here for good, they just couldn't bear to leave her there ( she was old too) so she flew home and cost them a fortune in 6 months quarantine ( this was several years ago) then spent a few more happy years at home in England with them, they said they felt like they had put her in prison but she got over it surprisingly well.

:luck: with your decision.

If it were me, i'd check out what my vet had to say, just as Kris has said.

Only if it were going to be absolutely detrimental to her health would i leave her behind BUT your vet is the best person to tell you this & put your mind at ease.

Good luck :luck: :luck:

I don't know whether you were aware that since the hunting with dogs act was introduced it is Illegal to pursue squirrels with dogs.

If caught breaking this law you actually run the risk of having your dog confiscated.

Cheers

Ok everyone, I have just received an email from macy4 confirming that Macy is my Mollys sister :huggles:

Me and John are trying to decide whether to rehome Macy but our other dog Lenny is extremely fear aggressive so I don't think it would work out :( Has anyone ever introduced a new dog to a fear aggressive dog before (should mention that Lennys fear is other dogs!). Bearing in mind also that we both work full time, so apart from a dinner hour and slightly staggered starting and finishing times, the dogs would be alone most of the day. Molly and Lenny are fine with this now but I am trying to decide how Lenny would be with another dog in this situation.

I really don't think we're going to be able to take her, so if not, please please please would another k9er consider her? If she's anything like Molly she'll be a dream to live with o:)

what area are you in please as my friend is wanting to rehome another whippet.she has a greyhound and whippet and is a very experienced dog owner.
