Hi everyone,

sorry I have not posted for a while life is busy with all the foster children and animals. Happy belated New Year to you all.

I wondered whether there is lovely person who is looking for a beautiful friendly whippet to spoil. My friend needs to find a home for her little girl and has asked me to make enquires for her as she does not have a computer.

She is 18 months old and is a lovely girl.

The new home would be vetted and she does not want her to go to a foster home or rescue and will keep her until that very special person comes along.

She wanted to advertise in the paper but I suggested that I helped her first on this site as everyone here knows about whippets.

If anyone is interested please pm me with all your details and about yourself and I will pass on the emails to her. She would like someone local who can spend time with the whippet first and getting to know her before she moves in.

My friend is looking for a real special person and would like her to be an only child( dog).

The whippet is in the North West.

Good luck in finding her a home. :luck: :luck:

How sad for your friend....sounds like she really cares about finding the right home :(

She shouldn't be afraid of rescue though....JR Whippet Rescue know what they're doing, and have a waiting list of knowledgeable, pre home checked people who are desperate to give a whippet a good home, and they're very particular about matching the right dog to the right owner.....that's got to be better than advertising her in the paper?

Good luck to her and her girl :luck:

Its is certainly worth asking Whippet Rescue if they have anyone in the area who is looking. They may have someone waiting who has had Whippets before. Good luck to your friend. :luck:

sounds a shame she needs re-homing, what color is she?

Sorry but have to say in certain areas JR Whippet Rescue may have a waiting list but they are most definitely not all knowledgeable people lined up, in fact in my experience dogs have been passed from home to home by the rescue before finally ending up with a knowledgeable forever owner. I think this lady is quite right to find a kind and loving experienced whippet owner herself.

Thank you for your support, as a foster mum I see what goes on with children moving from place to place and if they can do it with children with placements they can certainly do it with dogs.

Good luck i hope you find a good home for her.

I've been foster mum for JR and home checker for seven years so have seen the good and bad side of it all. Definitely better to find her a forever home and only using rescue as an absolute last resort.

What about the breeder? Has she checked with them if they're either willing to take her back, or to work with her on finding the whippet a new home?

Hi she is fawn, she did not come directly from a breeder, my friend has had her since she was four months old. Between myself and my friend we will hopefully manage to find her a super new home.

good luck :luck:   in finding a suitable home for her.
Thanks, I am sure that she will find a good home, the question always is whether too charge or not to charge, asking for a payment shows commitment mostly, but I also think by not charging you have total control on where she goes as no money is involved. I would like to think the commitment will still be there due to the new owner spending time with the dog over a couple of weeks before she moves in so its time payment rather than cash. Thats why I have asked for local owners or owners that are prepared to spent time travelling.

Does she know the name of the breeder though.

Only ask because I lost track of a pup I bred (I try to stay in touch with them all ) for months I tried contacting the person I sold him too and heard nothing. But fate played a hand and after a year of worrying what had happened to him I was contacted by a lady interested in another pup I was homing. To cut a long story short, she also had the dog I had lost touch with. To say I was over joyed is an understatement. Both boys I know now are in a wonderful home.

If this was a dog I bred I would be very grateful if the owner contacted me. Never mind where her present owner got her. So I would definitely try to find the breeder. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Yes! Me too. As much as you try and stay in touch with the people you sell puppies to, it is not always possible, and I know I was mortified when I discovered a puppy I had sold to what seemed an eminently suitable home put him into rescue. Like Millie, I found out what happened to him quite by chance through another friend and got to know his new owners.

My puppies go with a contract to say that they are to be returned to me but, unfortunately, people do not always adhere to this. The resuce place he went into had all his paperwork but, funnily enough, not that bit! Why rescue places will not contact breeders, even out of courtesy, when they get dogs in with full paperwork is beyond me. It seems they condemn us out of hand without hearing both sides of the story, and, surely, it would make their jobs easier if they would reunite caring breeders with dogs that they had bred???

Sorry, slightly off topic and I will get off my soapbox now.

Having worked at a (general) dog rescue centre of course I realise what problems exist, however I suppose I've been very lucky in that my experience of whippet rescue and that of my friends has only been positive, and understand that demand for rescue whippets generally outstrips supply so imagine that they can be more choosy about where they end up? But happy to be corrected, and yes, this lady should approach the problem in whatever way she feels will produce the best outcome for her dog.

:luck: Best of luck in finding the right home, just wish I could fit another one in! (...Fawn  )

I know the breeders on this site are very caring, but some breeders are not. I certainly would not have let my lovely whippet go back to the breeder if it was impossible to keep her. I was never sure anyway whether she was breed from the breeder we got her from due to things that did not match up, i.e different colour dog when we picked her up and a tattoo on her ear. She was one of eight puppies and when I was picking her up the hubby took my husband to see the rest of the puppies and there were still 8. But I will never know the full story and even though I signed to say she could have her back there was no way I would have taken her back there to live outside in a pen.

Hi,

We live in the Scottish Borders and already have a 11 month old female whippet who would love a new pal.

Let me know.

Thanks

Fiona
