Hi Guys, How are you all, Ive not been on for ages, Codie is doing well.

Listen Have any of you been hit by the rubbish from M&S , they have doubled my policy price saying that it is due to

1/ vet price increase,

2/ They have found that most claims are for MALE dogs.

3/ Also breed dogs are now taken into consideration where it wasnt before.

This is nonesence, I am now shopping around, have any of you found better quotes.

Thanks

Gavin

Had the same problem last year. I shopped around and for my sins I unfortunately went with E & L. What a mistake  . Word of caution stay well clear of them!!

I have heard More Than settle claims quickly but I suppose its the luck of the draw.

Any way Good Luck!

Hi,

I would check any insurance policy very carefully as some of the cheaper companies will only pay out a certain amount for an illness or injury and then won't pay any more. Others will pay out a set amount per year so if your dog gets a long-term illness they will be covered for life with that illness.

I have a Pet plan insurance policy for my mongrel and whippet which has always been really good, but not everyone will agree that they are the best insurance company around - it all depends what you want the insurance for.

Best to put money away yourself.A lot of peeps I know now open an account with Credit Union and "if" their dog has accident they get the money from there.I believe most insurance is a rip off anyway

I've decided to stick with M&S even though Muffin's insurance has more than doubled in price. (w00t) But they will pay out every year for the same illness which is what a lot of the cheaper policies don't do. I am just about to make my first claim - not for an illness but for my ruined glasses that Jonah managed to get hold of! It will be interesting to see what the service is like - certainly they've been very helpful on the phone. And if they pay up for my glasses then at least this year's payment hasn't been a waste of money!! :D

I had this earlier this year, too. There are quite a few threads about comparing policies in FAQ, gavo, it might be worth having a read  I eventually stayed with M&S for 2 of mine because it is the best around, if not the cheapest. My 3rd dog I chose Argos Platinum because the cover was lifetime, offered similar benefits to M&S, but was only £10.92 a month instead of nearly £20.

My M&S premiums went up a little so I phoned them and they told me male dogs cost more too!!!

I got a cheque in the post today but they have taken money off somewhere and I'm supposed to be on a zero-excess policy  I will be phoning them on Monday to find out about this.

This is the first time I've had problems with them and they get a lot of money from me as I have six dogs insured with them with premiums ranging from £12 for the youngsters to £18 for my oldest male!!!

o:) I'm using my credit card for my old 13.5 yr old because she's not insured. Plastic has its uses

I hear where you're coming from, but would advise anyone taking this path not to do so until they have a fair bit stashed away.

Last year I had a vet bill for one condition that totalled £2700, if I hadn't have been insured that would have seriously taken it's toll on my credit card, and it certainly wouldn't have taken me only a couple of months to save up, not on my wages anyway (w00t)

Big believer in insurance, and all mine are cover for life at that

I hate paying it out every month, but I just couldn't have dogs, let alone whippets, without knowing they were covered for everything :sweating:

I got a shock with M&S this year too - i went to add Bloggs to the policy and they quoted me £20 a month instead of the £9 that Dij costs

apparently because he's a year younger and so more prone to accidents!

so i went with argos (platinum) same lifetime cover - the only difference is that they pay out up to 6k per year per illness rather than M&S's 7k

If dij goes up next year he's gonna be an argos boy too!

worse tho was scottish pet insurance - my cats premium was set to go up from £8 a month to £50 - yes, you read that right! £50 per month per cat

yeah right!

£50 a month fer cat insurance, absolutely outrageous, money orientated this country is, wants bloody nuking, and when Argos rake in the customers, up go there premiums,.

i agree ,this is what i do ,just pop whatever i can afford away each month

I was with M&S and the same doubling in premium came along, espite Izzy being female. I am now with E&L after shopping around.

Try money saving expert.com to compare quotes. They do all differ on levels of cover though so its not straightforward.

E & L are the WORST company to be with , trust me , just ask your vet .

Ive had claims from them take over a YEAR to pay out  Every excuse they could think of they will , change now before you need to make a claim .

Im now with Argos Platinum , after having moved to M& S , who paid up prombtley but them put up prices by 70 %

:huggles:

my dog was hit with a car at 6 month old costing about 3k, then last year (charlie is just 3) he was lame with the same leg from the accident and this went on for months costing approx £600.00 and i have had all this paid back by the insurance, no quibble and settled in under a month. Most times it only took 2 week. So though the premiums have gone up for both my dogs, when it counts they pay out which at the end of the day is all im bothered about.

I am an insurance advisor at a brokers and the only pet insurance we sold was E & L but i used to tell folk to get on the net and check out m & s and morethan simply because of the claims service and value for money.

Also I met a vet at a party who told me to cancel my insurance and put the money in a pot, and if something happened the money was there if not i had a nice tidy sum when the dog died. 2 days later my dog was smashed up by a car, so thank god i never listen to other people

i had my horse insured with E&L. what a waste of time that was! if they are the same with dogs as with horses, steer well clear!

I just put away 30 quid a month and, touch wood, i havent had to pay out anything major yet. there's enough in there now though to cover most things, so i've found this to be the best way for me.

Too right!

Insurance based on " ifs".Would rather have the money in my own account and if worse comes to worse ill take a loan or use my real savings.Such a bloody rip off these companies.Credit union will give u a loan if needs be and at fab rate too.Better than any bank I know. Can get over 5k if u need to get ur hands on cash quick

How it possibly be more cost effective? it boils down to risk i have 2 dogs first became ill at 8 month cost me 3k+ in vet fees and 2 years on is still having problems she is insured with M&S no excess £10.00 a month so in effect £ spent was £80.00 M&S paid out £3k+ and are still paying without quibble prem has gone up to £12.95 where,s the "rip off"? putting money away or taking a loan is not cost effective unless your dog/s spend 5years+ not needing any treatment even then £50.00 a month is only £3k if for instance for dog is knocked down has a fracture needs pinning etc thats 5 years savings gone and a shortfall to pay

"Insurance based on if's" well thats the basis of all insurance you only use it "if"

I hear what you are saying and respect your opinion. :)

Perhaps like some I prefer other forms of insurance ,my own. My money,my way works for me and "if" my dogs get ill or injuried I will deal with it.And keep my money in my own account.

just insured all my dogs including the igs and comes to a total of 36.40 , argo`s platinium
