im with m&s, flo started out at £8 a month, then over first year claimed over £500 in treatment and hydrotherapy, but was very pleased (thought it'd be loads more) when i got the renewal though- it had only gone up to £10 a month. thats fair considering that they know she will need more treatment in future...

and thats with NO EXCESS at all! and they pay out within a month.

petplan is good, but lot more expensive, i took out m&s when i was vet nursing, we sell petplan so i felt like such a traitor, but i couldnt fork out for their insurance

Yes mine was like that. They put it up to £21 for the older two ( 8 and 7) £17 for Lily ( 16 months) and £16 for Daisy ( who I claimed £42 for). They couldn't give me a reason for the large increase. I was expecting an increase but not that much.

My 2 are insured with M&S and I was expecting the worse when their policies came up for renewal but they went up by just 50p each a month. Yet my Dad received Louis policy renewal and his has gone up to about £18 pm.

I rang and asked and it turns out mine are registered as whippets and not 'pedigree whippets' apparently an initial admin error but it means that my premiums are kept at about £11 pm each!! (w00t) It won't effect pay outs or anything else - so I am sticking with them!

But I don't know what to do if I get a 3rd whippy.... :b

im the same i went up £7 with blues policy keep saying im gonna change will see how much my old girl goes up too next month

It's worth asking the insurance company you choose if they will take anything off the premium for things you don't want - boarding fees if you are in hospital, advertising/reward if lost /cover for overseas travel etc. I was with Direct Line and got a bit of a hike last time, so I rang them and told them I could get it cheaper with a couple fo others (I'd checked). They said I couls take out the things as above and it reduced my policy for Polly to £11.56 a month for silver cover (lifetime cover).

I couldn't get insurance for Twiggy as she was a rescue and too old when I got her (10), so I save £10 a month towards any treatment for her but so far, touch wood etc, she has only had routine stuff plus a blood test for her renal function I asked for - she is now going on 13.

OMG, right I'm going to cancel the policy ( I get 14 days to do this). I've just spoken to Tesco who I used to be with. They are better than M & S, by far. I might go back to them.
Hi,

put Tesco don't offer a no excess policy. I have 4 dogs insured with M&S, I have just had to renew two policies and yes they have gone up, I did shop around and found that none of the other companies offer 'No Excess" policy, so I was better off paying the little extra and not having to worry about the excess, especailly as this year has been a bad year with all four needing treatment at sometime from, tears, to life threatening incidents. M&S have paid up without any problems.

Jenny

Yes, I would reiterate - don't go with E&L Juley - it has a terrible reputation.

Zephyr's policy with Petshield has gone up from £28/month to £40/month (w00t) - I was horrified and had a long talk with them, but to be fair I have claimed back £4,500  in the last two years because he had cancer and then a whole series of accidents and injuries so I suppose I can't blame them for seeing him as a high risk customer. I must say they have been excellent, never quibbled over any of the claims and always paid up very promptly. And of course I cannot change to another company now as they wouldn't cover for previous illnesses, and I just can't take that risk. :( It is an awful lot of money for one dog though! :(

I've cancelled E and L and have gone with Tesco. Its more basic than M and S but does what I need it to. Just a shame M and S have gone up so much, thanks for all your input. Juley

Right I've had a look. Sainsburys wanted a lot, I have one over 8 years old. I've gone for the most basic cover from E and L. I have the caravan insured with them. Tbh, its not the "bits and bobs" I mind, its the worry of a big bill I want covered. I have got the 5 dogs insured for less than the 4 were with M and S last year. Its got an excess and its not such a good policy but its covering me for a large payout which is what I wanted.  I do have a 14 day cooling off period so I may yet change my mind.

(w00t) (w00t) (w00t) Oh Juley , Cancel it please < I was with E & L for my gang , and they try to get out of paying every time . even Vets tell you they are bad payers .

When Mollee had a wrist injury they said it was a bone desease that wasnt covered  they were wrong and after waiting over a year for my money  I cancelled the policy afterwards ,

When Mayzees policy was due for renewel when she got to 8 years , they said they take off the first 35% of the bill , then the excess of £75.00 and pay the rest ( if there is any )

No sorry , they might be good for Caravans , but there are others who are better , Ive now got mine with Argos , life time cover and I pay £11.30 for India , Ive just got Buffees renewel and also a 70% rise from M & s . so will cancel that and change to Argos .

Up to you , but say E& L to your vet and see what they say :- " ;)

As regards staying with M& S cos there is no excess , Jenny , its not really cost effective if you work it out .

Pay £17.00 per dog per month with no excess = £204 per year

pay £11.00 with £50.00 excess( should you be so unlucky) = £132.00 py

so even if you do need to pay excess youve still saved £72.00

edited to say i didnt read Juley s last post

I didn't look at Argos, :( . Tesco did all mine on the basic one for £54.87 for five of them. I opted not to have the reward if lost money and the refund if they died young. I just had the Vet bills and 3rd party liability. I did speak to my Vet about E and L (w00t) (w00t) .

Wow, thanks Jax, I've just got a quote from Argos, and the Platinum cover which covers illnesses for life (like M&S) will do Lola for just over £8 a month (w00t) I'm paying £21 for Lola... and I've been back and forth with M&S since September because they keep making mistakes on my policy and every time I ring to correct the latest mistake, they send me a new policy document and the monthly fee creeps up each time (it started off at £13 and has crept up to £20 since I renewed in Sept  )

I'm not impressed with all the mistakes, but they did pay out immediately for Josie when she was injured, so I was prepared to stick with them. Not if I can get the same benefits for less than half the amount though!!!
