shes lovely  ,long time since ive kept rabbits.

She's lovely

Has she got another rabbit friend? :huggles: www.rabbitwelfare.co.uk - good website for rabbity info

(Her ears look a bit long to be a full netherland dwarf?)

hi

she is definitely pure Netherland Dwarf (atleast that's what i was told).

i may get her a friend one day but i'm in two minds about it because not all rabbits like other rabbits and if i got a friend and they hated each other i would end up with another hutch and run and i don't have the room....unless she really appears sad on her own, then possibly i will not get another one. :)

Awww very cute indeed..she looks like a Netherland to me. . :huggles: :huggles: I have 7 rabbits here....1 Lionhead, and 5 Netherlands....

here is Tipsy and Rolo...

sorry that is a bit small but if you click  on my webpage and go to the gallery there are some more pictures there..

We used to breed netherland dwarfs our first was an older buck called Thumper and was Ben's pet. That was until 'he' gave birth to 8 baby rabbits  .OH went back to the shop we had her from and they were insistent on the fact we were mistaken and we'd definitely had a buck

All rabbits prefer the company of other rabbits - they live in huge social groups in the wild, I think companionship is one of their fundamental needs. Some pairings work better than others - ie a male / female combination works best (both neutered ofcourse!) and 2 entire males are more likely to fight. You also have to introduce them properly - ie dont just plop one rabbit into another rabbits territory as they will fight, it needs to be done on neutral ground and sometimes gradually.

This isn't intended at you Whippets Rule, I'm sure you love your rabbit but I really despair at pet shops who seem to go out of their way to sell rabbits to live in crappy hutches and in solitary confinement. Why go out of their way to make a rabbits' life miserable? They rarely give the correct advice about vaccinations and companionship and some the hutches on sale are a disgrace. There is some good information about:

I'm very passionate about rabbits (as you can tell) we have 5 here now - a male/female pair in one enclosure and a male and 2 females in another. Lovely little people

ok .....

the hutch is a double 4.5ft by 2ft by 2ft.(each level)

her run is 6ft by 3ft.

i have to disagree on the ALL rabbits prefer company as from experience i know that statement isn't true.

many rabbits may be successfully bonded and live happily together, however there are plenty of rabbits which do not enjoy/will not accept other rabbits irrespective of whether they are neutered and introduced with the greatest patience and care.

it would be naive and irresponsible to buy another rabbit unless i am prepared to care for them seperately and provide seperate accomodation if they do not like each other.

i would rather be responsible and look after my rabbit properly than have an extra rabbit that i do not want,an extra hutch which right now i do not wish to have and two stressed out rabbits because one doesn't want to live with the other.

i have a fair amount of knowledge and some small experience of intros from fifteen years ago when i had four rabbits....two bonded perfectly and lived very happily but two hated each other..they were opposite sexes and introduced to each other very carefully over four months always on neutral territory and i will never ever put my animals through that again.

without seeming impertinent....simply because wild rabbits live together has little correlation to domesticated rabbits....just the same as domestic dogs and wolves.

i personally am extremely devoted to all my animals and go to great lengths to ensure they are happy and properly cared for and if i thought for one moment that my rabbit really was unhappy i would do anything in my power to make her happy.

she was taken to the vets on the way home and had her myxo jab...she will go back in two weeks for Cyclap injection. she also has Bio Lapis in her water for seven days to keep her gut flora properly balanced during this stressful time.

her staple food is good quality hay and fresh vegetables and fruit supplemented by dry mix which i will progressively change to a better quality pelleted food like Science Selective over the next fourteen days.

i will just add that i won't reply again as i sincerely do not need educating in the care of rabbits, i simply came to share my pictures sorry :b

Ive kept rabbits too from my teenage days.....some rabbits like the company of others in my experience and some definitely dont. All my rabbits are housed in seperate hutches....but are allowed on the lawn in a long run. I used to show rabbits years ago and all mine then were housed seperately. Then it was New Zealand Whites,, then English (Black) and Black and Tans too. :)

Ive had a doe and daughter who have lived together for years...but I have had others that fought and had to be seperated and seemed much happier housed on their own. I personally wont neuter my rabbits and I find bucks make nicer pets too ....does can be very grumpy, at least some of them anyways.

some of the rabbits where I work on the open farm are housed with guinea pigs and get along fine, but there are others that hate being with guinea pigs and fight (w00t)

Your rabbit looks in perfect health, lovely bright eyes too and a gorgeous colour....with lots of tlc...and affection, rabbits can live a long long time, perfectly well as a single pet.

I had one little black and white dutch (my favourite of all the rabbits Ive had) lived for 10 years and finally died on Christmas Day...my daughter and I were absolutely gutted. :(
