I've wanted to walk up Mam Tor for ages - it's only a short drive away - but we've never seemed to be able to get round to it. Anyway, we decided today that that's what we'd do so off we set.

The view from the top is fantastic..... :D

...or so we've been told!!! (w00t)

It started off OK

Through the gate...

...and into open countryside

The mist is beginning to close in... :sweating:

And this is what it was like on the top

Couldn't see a thing!

We decided to go on knowing that the path was paved all the way. We were amazed to meet quite a few other people as daft as us!!

Starting to clear just a bit now :)

Beginning to get an idea of what we were missing now - the view down towards Castleton

Just as I was taking this photo Richard shouted "Look behind you!"

This sheep was heading right for me - I'm sure he would have butted me out of the way if I hadn't turned round!

Another view from the top

And another looking down towards Edale

Then we set off back down - still rather misty, but at least it was dry now.

Nearly down

Looking back up the way we'd come.

It was a really nice walk - took us about 2 hours - which would be even better in the sunshine! :- " So we shall definitely be doing it again and hopefully get to see the views properly. :D

Castleton to Edale!!!!! I have forgotten how many times I have walked there. Fantastic scenery and lovely walks. It all brings back many happy memories, thanks for sharing.

It's actually pretty easy to get to the top as there is a car park quite near, but we decided to walk it from Edale and make it a decent walk for the dogs. we are definitely going back as the view is spectacular on a clear day!!

What a lovely walk. Thanks for sharing. A pity the weather wasn't better for you, but is still looked really beautiful.

Great pics Gillian, another place I haven't been for years! Shame it was bad weather at the top :(

another lovely walk Gillian - great views...I'm sure...on a bright day... :huggles: :huggles:

Its a shame about the weather Gillian because that view is fantastic :) Still some lovely photos though - I agree, those sheep are a bit bold up there aren't they

We picked a really good day when went back in august however it was still very windy at the trig point. Our backs were so sweaty though from our rucksacks that the breeze was lovely :D

I think we'll be back there again soon, we have found a nice holiday cottage in Castleton however I think we are taking a year out from the Peaks next year - the Lakes beckons! We may also be taking a trip up to Gretna :- "

are congratulations going to be in order lucy ??? :- " :p

Yay...it will be Kinder Scout next, via Jacob's Ladder

Definitely worth doing again on a sunny day and following the whole ridge along almost to Hope and back along the valley again.

I've been mugged for my sarnies before by those pesky sheep. Some of them are very bold

brings back memories from younger days no path when we used to do it really lovely veiws on a sunny day :*
