I try not to swear, but am I allowed to say "miserable, horrible, hard-hearted b@st@rd"? Sorry but can you imagine how that poor little dog felt on being abandoned when it struggled to catch him up?

If people can't manage, why can't they either take them to a rescue kennels, or have them put to sleep if they genuinely can't cope or can't rehome a pet? I know pts is an awful, final option but abandoning them to an uncertain future is far worse, IMO.

The owner has apparently been traced. I hope the owner and the 'friends' who helped him get rid of Brandy don't get away with it.

I guess the good news is that the poor little dog is now getting proper care and has had hundreds of home offers.

(ETA - I hope some of the people outraged by this and who are offering Brandy a home might consider adopting another dog. They aren't all cute and fluffy and seen being dumped on camera, but there are lots of dogs who are just as much in need of a home)

Any one breeding litters should consider having micro chips or tattoos, before they leave their home at least they could be traced to the owners all my puppies are chipped it doesnt cost much and its away of discourageing people to dump them i also have contracts in place that they will return them to me if they can no longer care for them and i check up on them when i can or ask for photos to prove they still have them . I know its not always possible but every little helps and if you are asked to let your stud dog be used check out the bitch and the way she is looked after, sadly i see a lot of people with dogs and think i wouldnt sell them a goldfish so how have they got a dog, It seems its take the money and run with no thought about the dog to many people are breeding for the wrong reasons

Agree with most of the above post.I have kept in contact with the breeder and friends we got Eric from and have sent photo's :teehee:

I agree it needs something pretty radical to happen to stop this and the breeding purely for cash gain.Having a dog licence for the owners would not work as it's been done before and scrapped,because of not enough resourses to "police" it,And who would regulate and police it?

Now i think a government run licence scheme for breeders on a register may work,But you will always get unlicenced back street breeders even if that was in place?

The answer would be NOT to buy from them.

The cash for breeding is another thing the government could gain from and stop it happening as much,This would be to tax breeders depending on what is being charged per puppy? At the end of the day some of the expensive breeds or even the "in" breeds(because of celebs having them!)are going for £1000+ each.Now if you get a litter of 10.....£10,000! ALL tax free. Even taking out costs,you would be looking at least £8000 profit. Times twice a year in some cases! =£16,000

Now that is why breeding is so popular.....

You just have to trust that there are more good genuine breeders that do it right and do their homework on potential owners :thumbsup:

I wish I shared your optimism. Unfortunately I think a very small proportion of the dogs on this country come from 'good' breeders who give a damn about where their pups go or offer any sort of back-up to owners who can't keep their dogs.

Huge numbers are being bred in English and Irish puppy farms, and equally huge numbers by 'backstreet breeders' who are either breeding entirely to make money, or who think it would be 'nice' for their bitch to have pups, or who are too lazy or ignorant to do anything to prevent accidental pregnancies.

Right now everybody I know in rescue is saying things have never been so bad, the pounds are overflowing and strays are being put to sleep after their 7 days are up faster than rescues can find places to get them out and safe. I think the official figure for unclaimed dogs pts in council pounds last year was just under 10,000, I suspect it's going to be higher this year

i agree with you Fee Fee it is much worse this year.in one pound last week near us they pts 18 staffys and theres 30 on a waiting list from their owners wanting to come in.nowhere for them to go only one place

But it is getting overwhelming with the amount of dogs being dumped etc.

I was being quite kind with my comments,I agree that a lot of breeders have no interest in what happens to the puppies so long as they get the cash.

It also angers me also,"oh it was a accident".....what again!!

If all dogs cost £50 to buy there would'nt be the same/any problem,Why one breed costs thousands and one costs £150?? Why?

Exactly Phil... :thumbsup: I was talking to a man on the farm where I work ( a visitor I might add) we got talking about dogs and he was saying he had a Labradoodle !!

to which I replied oh yes a crossbreed.......he had paid......the sum of....wait for it

£1500.00

at the end of the day...this is still a crossbreed....I just dont understand it at all.... :angry:

did eric cost £50.00?? supply and demand, your last statement is the wrong way round the higher the cost would mean less buyers, harder to sell and more discerning buyers

I agree with what you are saying,supply and demand is the key.BUT if there was'nt so much VAST profit to be made in breeding dogs then breeders would be less inclined to have litters.

My point was if a pup costs £50 then people who breed may think "oh,bollox to that it's not worth it" BUT when as Janis has just pointed out you have a Labradoodle pup going for £1500 EACH then they may think " Get in! happy days are here again....£10,000 in the bank!" :rant:
