I have just received my three cats Insurance renewals from M & S, they have put the premiums up considerably :rant: :rant:

Rinda age 10 my Norwegien Forest Cat has went up to £170.88 from £148.08

Bailey age 8 my Ragdoll has went up to £179.88 from £134.88

Chime age 12 my moggie has went up to £182.28 from £136.68

Plus over age 9 they charge £50 excess plus 20% of overall bill!!!

I have never even claimed for Chime or Bailey!

I phoned them up tonight and the reason they gave me was there are a lot more peope claiming for vet bills!

The problem is a lot of companies won't take on any new pets over the age of 8 or 9, Can anyone recommend any other companies I might try? I have heard RSPCA is good. The good thing about M & S they did pay me quickly last year when Rinda had to go to the e -vets. Also Veterinary fees up to £7,000

My other cat is with Petplan who don't take on new pets over 7 I think it is :rant:

hi i think petplan do take on older animals as im sure my friend has just got a quote for her older cat i will find out for you that is a bit of a steep rise though

Our Dobermann's went up last month from £14 a month to £25 with M&S - we had claimed in the last year but that was for her being injured when hit by a car, so hopefully a once in a lifetime event and not an ongoing illness. I have cancelled.

Had a claim of £500 with argos for one of the WHippets, again for a one off, and their policy was up for renewal this month and it's only gone up by £1 a month.

Im very happy with Argos - we have the top, platinum cover for the Whippets. Very good at paying up too.

we changed from M+S to Argos platinum when M+S hiked their prices AND stopped doing nil xs.

Much cheaper with Argos and quite similar cover.

M+S said 'young dogs are more likely to be accident prone and older dogs are more likely to get ill'

I say 'M+S just want to make a profit' so they'll lose more custom

We have Diesel insured with Liverpool Victoria and the other three with NFU.

I have tried getting an online quote and Argos is coming up £50 more expensive :unsure: each cat! I must surely be doing something wrong. I will try calling them tomorrow to get a quote over the phone. Sainsburys is cheaper but £125 excess

You all know about my huge vet bills with Ozzy AND Vinnie last year. I am with Argos and have the platinum cover for them both. :thumbsup:

my iggies are with argos and i think the cover is very good value for money , the lurchers are with argos and that works out at under£6 a dog for upto £2500 cover per incident

I just tried a quote from "Argos" for Robbie my 7 yr old Greyhound and they want ..........£747.75 per year :sweating:

I just called Argos as I thought my online quote must be a mistake and the online quote was correct! They want £403.62 just for the moggie age 12 (w00t) (w00t) (w00t) So the search is still on!!!!!

I tried to switch to Argos with Fred Whippet when he was 11. It wasn't a favourable quote, so I don't think they want to insure the new oldies. I'm paying £35 a month with Direct Line now (I made a claim a year or so ago so it increased significantly the following year)...still not cheap but it's hard to switch to a better deal when they are older. Could you try reducing the level of cover perhaps?

£35 pm seems a lot as well!

Might end up staying with M & S in the end. I suppose it's a case of better the devil you know in some cases!

RSPCA are a bit cheaper but they only go by per condition £6,500 and when it runs out that's it( though it would possibly take a few years to run out ) but M & S renew £7,00 every year and you start from fresh, though that covers all the conditions that would amout to the £7,000 every year. Pet plan is quite good but they only offer the life time cover if they are taking on pets under 10 years old!

I pay £17 per month each for my two whippy boys. It is slightly less for Rebus. For that I get £4000 per condition, per year. Their policy does not have exclusions so the chest bleed Albus suffered with in 2006 was covered. In most policies that would then be excluded. The chest bleed that he had last year was still covered and there was no problem when he was referred to Liverpool Veterinary Hospital for tests. The total vet bill for that was £2300 . He then had a £700 bill for pancreatitis earlier in 2008.

I have found them to be very prompt in settling our bills and they are always polite and show concern about your pets. I cannot rate them highly enough and their prices have stayed static for the last few years. Obviously I am expecting an increase when it comes up for renewal this time.

Until December Diesel was covered with M&S. I was very disappointed about a huge price hike despite no claim. I now have him insured with Liverpool Victoria. A very similar type policy to NFU and this costs £16.24 per month. I haven't had a claim so cannot say how they would handle it.
