Generally I don't like that sort of thing but Mary Ray is the exception. She is jolly good and I llok forward to final night to see what she has come up with for that year.

Noticed that there were some dvd's of hers at Crufts will have to look these up.

i dont really like performing animals but her dogs look so happy and they obviously worship her.watching them work makes me cry,not with sadness i hasten to add but the sheer joy on the dogs faces and the happiness and loyalty they exude :)

I know its each to his own, and without a doubt, Mary Ray certainly is on the same wavelength as her dogs, ( planet gaga) but I find this kind of thing a bit cringeworthy. I see dogs as noble, graceful, proud animals and watching them prance about like puppets to me always seems a bit demeaning to me :- "

I must admit i dont enjoy watching it,

Sada was pretty engrossed in it though

Although she is good at what she does and the dogs appear to enjoy it - it is not what CRUFTS should be about IMHO.

While some people find Mary Ray's routine with her dogs "entertaining" i find it cringeworthy as well and the routine is pretty much the same as what she has done before -_-

If you like that kind of thing fair enough,I went to make us a brew ;)

I enjoy watching it. It's just another form of obedience training really. If the dogs didn't enjoy it I'm sure they wouldn't do it. Better a busy collie than a bored one...they can't all be herding sheep :)

Always brings a tear to my eye too. Soft or wot? :b

Im the same Nicola, keep sniffing into my hankie for some reason. :- " :) I think its a fabulous display of how far obedience can be taken when dogs put there complete trust in someone.

I like watching the dancing .....as said its pushing the boundaries of obedience and partnership to there limits .......I have to say my Collie Ellie loves learning new things and enjoys dancing ......and my 1 Whippet Eric whos very bright thinks its great :D ......He showed Auntie Rae some of his moves on Sunday at racing 8) .......Eric had a huge grin on his face and enjoyed showing off

I thought the TV coverage of Mary Ray was a disgrace.

The camera kept sweeping right out to include the whole arena and the crowds that she just became a tiny spot in the middle. It was very distracting and you couldn't see what she was doing with the dogs.

From what I did see close-up she was pretty much doing the same thing over and over every year. Yes it's cute and amazing how much the dogs can learn but I think she could be more imaginative.

I think she said on last year's crufts programme she just hashes her crufts display together at the last minute.. well sorry Mary but it shows...

Thats why i think the T.V Coverage would be better spent on displays by dogs for the disabled, police dogs, hearing dogs....etc Much more positive than somebody doing "tricks" with her dogs(the same tricks too!) :- "

Personally I think the whole coverage of Crufts is a disgrace. Hubby and I were just saying - the biggest dog show in the world..... and you hardly see some of the breeds - and they talk and talk so much, and whats left hardly shows anything of the particular breed you love.

Why not put a channel on purposely for Crufts, Im sure all dog lovers would be watching it. :)

I agree,Too much time spent talkin (Fogle  ) The interactive coverage was a lot better than the actual program slot.

I agree Jan - it would be really good to see much more of the breeds and have better coverage of the whole event, including things like Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. With the crowds of people there on the Saturday, it is obviously a very popular event and would make a real change from the amount of football, rugby, snooker and cricket coverage on TV. :- "

I too was also irritated by the camera when watching Mary Ray, as a lot of the time you couldn't see her or the dog. :(

Having said all of that, I had a brilliant day at Crufts and we stayed to watch the Terrier and Hound Group in the Arena. The atmosphere was really great. :) :)

I've seen Mary Ray at Crufts for the last 4 years or so & have to say that this years routine was not as good as previous ones. That's not to say it wasn't very good, just didn't get me sniffling like some of her other ones have.

We went to a training session/demo of hers some years ago & saw how she puts it all together, very inspiring.

I've had a go with Hebe as she'll literally jump through hoops for a bit of food, she seemed to enjoy learning something new. Rafferty looked at me like I'd gone insane & went & lay down out of my way :clown:

 Mary Ray and her performances do nothing for me. I always think its the same old tired routine just put to different music every year. This year I thought she really looked as if she was running out of ideas !! Time for a change perhaps?! :huggles:

A couple of years ago I bought a hula hoop after watching an agility demo. I took it into the garden with The Supermodel.

She took one look at the hoop, gave me a filthy glance and bolted indoors!!!

Milly-lab, who was only ten weeks old, happily agreed to jump through the hoop for a treat and then sat down and chewed the hoop in half.

(The rest of the whippets refused to get out of bed!)

I'd be more interested in doing agility with my dogs, but I can't see any harm in doing heelwork to music and dancing with dogs if it's applying obedience training in a way that the handler enjoys. Anything (that's not cruel or harmful) which keeps dogs occupied and interacting with their humans is good, I think.
