Poor old Jimmy had multiple cancerous tumours (bladder, kidneys, prostate, adrenal gland). The bladder tumour was the one most likely to cause immediate problems, it was growing so that it partially blocked the exit and would eventually stop him weeing. He was able to wee, but his flow was reduced. Medication slowed it's growth but didn't stop it. We were having regular scans to monitor this in particular, and our course of action was to opt for surgery when his flow was so reduced it was likely to stop soon (or if he couldn't wee, get the surgery as a matter of urgency). There were several surgical interventions available, but the surgeon and our specialist vet (and us) agreed that placing a port on his side that would allow us to empty his bladder for him was the best option. Sadly we lost him before we could consider this.

I am still in awe at how well he coped with all of this for almost a year (and who knows how long before this prior to his diagnosis). He just tackled it all in great spirits, including all the visits to the vets which stressed him out greatly, chemo drugs which upset, weeing blood/clots and so on. I'm getting emotional about this, I miss him so much.

@arealhuman please accept my apologies - of course I read about poor Jimmy, but when I saw your post just now I thought Rusty, just because I haven't had my second coffee and it was Rusty we were talking about and I wasn't reading properly - excuses, excuses.

I am very, very sorry I made you repeat all that.

(((hugs)))

Hey, no problem at all @JoanneF :) I'm the same with coffee, I just can't function without it and have just finished my fourth mug already (that's what happens when Rusty goes to bed late and I take him out early!).
