Poor Merlin was bitten by a terrier whilst out walking yesterday - they seemed to be happily chasing each other in circles before the dog went for him. He had to be put under anasthetic and some skin had to be cut away - he now has 9 stitches.

I am a bit pathetic when it comes to animals and I think my friend was a bit shocked when I burst into tears after leaving Merlin at the vets - however he's only a baby & I was worried as he'd never had anasthetic before.

The vet said whippets are really easily injured because their skin is so thin and that they can be hard to heal because of the lack of fat under their skin. I'll be paranoid now every time he goes near another dog!

Oh dear Jill poor Merlin and poor you. Its very scary when something like that happens isn't it. They do heal very well though. I can't count the amount of time mine have caught themselves on barbed wire (or other dogs' teeth) and had to be sewn back together, in a few weeks you won't even be able to see the mark where it was.

aww poor merlin and you ..lots of :huggles: :huggles: for both of you and lots of :luck: :luck: hope he gets better soon :luck:

Poor Merlin - what a nasty experience for him. :( Hope the wound heals up quickly. :luck: :luck: :luck:

hope merlins ok :( and your fine too

Hope Merlin recovers very soon. :huggles:

Try not to worry too much about him meeting and socialising with other dogs in the future, you wont be as bad as you think you will be,it is only natural to be a bit protective tho after any sort of attack on your dog.Our Moss was very badly attacked by a Dobe earlier on this year at a show he had about 21 stitches (if my memory serves me well) and he healed really quickly despite the vet telling us too that they can sometimes taker longer to heal than other breeds, you can no longer even notice where the wound was at all and he is texactly the same with other dogs as he always has been (friendly) he was at first a bit more mouthy and in fact the other dogs that were with him at the time of the attack took it far worse than he did and afterwards tended to try and protect him from other dogs and put themselves between Moss and any newcomer but they have all settled back down again and are back to normal...........well as normal as 8 nutters can be!!

AWW HOPE YOUR mERLIN IS SOON FEELING BETTER, SOME DOGS WILL DO ANYTHING FOR A BIT OF EXTRA SPOILING :- "

:huggles:

:luck: Get well soon Merlin :luck:

 Have a large one Jill, it will help you sleep, you really have had a nasty shock.

we had this the other week the hole was only the size of a 10p, but so far it has cost us £360.58

She has had to have heavy sedation, 5 stitches

a staple (cause she pulled one out)

more sedation and more stitches (Cause she got her collar off and opened the wound)

plus all the antibiotics etc

Just hope she leaves it alone and we wont have to take out a second mortgage

I know.....it's so expensive, we've aleady paid £160 and have to go back to the vets a couple more times before it's over. That was one expensive walk that day and he'd only been off the lead a week! Hope your little one gets better soon. :luck:
