Hi guys, just posting this on here as i know a lot of you are from Northern Ireland.

Our whippet dog Renoir was staying with friends over the weekend whilst we were away. Unfortunately a workman at their house left a gate open and the dog escaped. Their house is on the Dromore Road area in Lurgan and Renoir was last seen in the surrounding area yesterday afternoon. If anyone hears of a whippet being found anywhere please let us know.

Thanks,

Janet

Janet you must be so worried but i'm sure Renoir will be back home safe and sound soon :(

Thanks guys, still no news, still putting up posters and searching, don't know what else to do.

Janet

:( Sorry to read that Renoir is still missing , I know how distraught you both must be. You are doing all you can - I hope he turns up safe and well soon. :luck:

Tina

 Just wondering if anyone has heard any more from Janet or Tracy regarding Renoir - has he been found? :luck: :luck:

Still nothing to report, we were out all day yesterday searching the surrounding fields, even had a scout around the local travellers camp, was going to leave a poster with the first person I saw, but didn't actually see anyone!

The last reported sighting was Tuesday morning, so given that we have generated plenty of publicity, I can only conclude that someone has him. going to put an article in the local paper. Also going to ring the council again, because apparently the department who lift dead aniamls from the roads may not neccessarily let the dog warden know if a dead dog was lifted. You'd think they'd communicate with each other, wouldn't you??

Will keep you all posted, thanks for all the messages and phone calls, if any of you lurcher folk see or hear of anyone suddenly getting a new dog, please keep Renoir in the back of your minds and ask a few questions.

Many thanks,

Janet

do you take a dog or two with you when you are searching; they have better senses of smell and hearing than we do.

I was also wondering if it's possible to hire trained tracker dogs (it's late in the day now and you don't know if Renoir is still in the area, but maybe worth a try if you have some bedding or such that would have his scent)

Do put a listing on the ispca and irishanimals sites (links are at your posting under missing dogs) ... there are lots of websites but as far as I know these are the main ones in Ireland for lost and found dogs. (I did put notices at Whippet Forum, Northern Ireland Animal Rescue and Pets Ireland pages for you.)

Bit of an update, Renoir has been spotted twice in the same place on the last two mornings. Tracy went out this afternoon, but he'd just vanished, and we took lamps tonight and scoured the fields. He is in an area about two miles from where he escaped, but no amount of calling would tempt him to show himself! So Tracy is going back first thing tomorrow morning, there will be an article in the local paper to generate more publicity, so hopefully we'll manage to get him home soon.
