Thanks for that advice Helen    One last question though, can you fit treats through the muzzle as his training is heavily reward based?
I must say, I do, but I don't know if you're supposed to. Maybe someone else can comment?

I feel that it's not quick enough to slip the muzzle off and then reward, so I just hold the treat through the grille and keep holding until Monty munches it down (which he does straight away). I have the muzzle quite close fitting so his snout is right at the end anway. He doesn't seem to have any trouble with taking treats this way!

Bless him, he's looking positively blooming! Amazing what a bit of TLC can do!! My old Coco used to be awful with strange dogs when she was on her lead, leaping up & down, shrieking like a banshee and lunging at them, getting the others going as well. Never said a dickie bird when she was off lead though and would go up to them much calmer so I very seldom put her on when we were out in the fields, maybe Monty is like Coco in this respect.

He's looking fab Helen! Monty!  Good luck with the socialisation. :luck: :luck:

Wonderful photos Helen, he really does look so much better :D

Stanley had a bit of a problem with nervous aggression with other dogs and people. So I basically just saturated him with both of them (people & dogs) whilst he had been given a good high dose fo Scullcap & Valerian to chill him out. I found the pub (luckily enough) perfect for people socialisng and shows and agility for doggie socialising.

He is now about 90% perfect - but he still doesn't like loud and bouncg people or dogs :b

Good luck with him, so lovely he has settled in so well :*

Lovely to get an update. You've done a wonderful job so far. He looks very content on his holiday chair :D

I think all rescues will have some sort of behavioural issue to deal with.....it's a shame it's nervous agression  , which I think is quite common in whippets, especially those that have suffered an attack or bad experience in the past. (Fred has this too, but is much better these days). Good luck :luck: ...having two other calm dogs will have a good influence eventually I'm sure :)

Monty is looking so much better than a few weeks ago.  His coat has a shine now too.  It just goes to show how some loving care and good food can improve things so quickly. :huggles: :huggles: Well done for taking him on, and so pleased to hear he has settled in so well.

I have problems with Dolly and aggression towards other large/bouncy dogs. She looks and sounds really aggressive. She goes to dog training and doesn't usually do it there, although she did have a go at a very bouncy Bearded Collie this week. :( They tell me to treat her when she is behaving, but that's quite difficult when she is carrying on so much!!

Brilliant tip about the Scullcap & Valerian - I've just got out the pot I bought from Dorwest for Josie and Lola. Can't remember why they needed it now! :b

Monty's had a dose with his lunch  and I'll make sure to give him some every day with breakfast because we're usually out walking at around 7.45am, so that will be perfect.

You're right - I knew there would be something to contend with, and to be honest I'm amazed at how placid he is generally and how little there is to worry about. He really is a lovely lad
