They look really beautiful Lanny and so well marked....Ceely has done you proud.      And what a great name for the little girl, will she be called Matilda or Matty then for her call name?  :)

She is Matty. She hasn't opened her ears (or eyes) yet, but the moment she can hear, the moment she can see she will know she is Matty because that is what we are already calling her. Great name for a dog. Absolutely great song... can anyone who has ever heard it not associate it with everything great from Australia?

Wow what beautiful puppies    love the name Matty

Yeah! - but I don't really know how/why when it's about a hobo, (Matilda is his swag) who steals the sheep from the property owner and then jumps into the billabong and drowns himself rather than be caught (w00t)

True enough Lana, and I knew all that because I can sing the song by heart -- but my son saw the name -- thought Matty for a call name and that was it! (He was thinking Tiffany before.... ugh, not for this dog though our first whippet, a rescue acquired back in 1982 was called Tiffany).

At least everyone who sees Avalonia Waltzing Matilda will quickly establish the connection and see it as a joyous name, whereas I have to wonder why any would have named a whippet (kennel name deleted) Sweet Disaster or (kennel name deleted) Widows Weeds which at least to me means the awful black garb widows a century ago were expected to wear from the point their husbands died till they died too. I remember seeing a lot of these ladies when I was a kid, and it was almost like they were already dead themselves.

We shall start picking the boy names soon, as they approach opening their eyes.

Oh, they are lovely!

Matty sounds great!

I like her darker brindle color, and all of the have very nice colors and marks!

Still love the proud mother  , her face is beautiful.

The pups are coming along beautifully and mum looks well too, don't forget to post updated pics please, they look an interesting litter.

Love the name Matty too, good luck with them :luck:

As far as I know "......... Widows Weeds" was black - hence the name.

I rather like Sweet Disaster - it's an oxymoron - like Sweet Sorrow (Romeo and Juliet) "parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say goodbye til it be morrow" (or something to that effect) because she's got to say goodbye but she knows she's going to see him tomorrow"

Perhaps "Sweet Disaster" was from an accidental mating and the pup turned out to be quite nice?

sorry Lana, but I can't help myself here. Do you know the name of the hobo???

Wait for it...........

The hobo's name was Andy,

Andy sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled

Andy sang as he stowed that jumbuck in his tucker bag,

Andys ghost may be heard as you passed by that billabong

Here are the Ceely pups, including the girl who is likely to be called Avalonia Waltzing Matilda.  Many years ago now I got persuaded to take over a bar piano when the guy who was supposed to be entertaining took an extended break he patrons considered to be too long.  With a roomful of Australian tourists I asked what they would like to hear and they said Anything Australian.  I musta played Waltzing Matilda ten times that night!  By the time I left the bar I had the top of the piano covered with drinks I could not safely consume, thanks to their generosity.  I know every word of that unofficial Australian national anthem to this day!
This photo shows the Ceely pups at 12 days.  The lone girl in this litter of 5 is the darker brindle one in the middle of the photo.

Congratulations Lanny, beautiful litter!
