Lovely photos BeeJay.

I couldn't see a small pesky thing - I was looking for a squirrel or something then I realised you meant Mouse (w00t)

Sorry to hear that Poppy was only 8 when you lost her - it's awful loosing them young as you feel totally cheated :( (well I did anyway)

I saw a deerhound in the flesh today - first one I have ever seen close up. He was lovely - a silly big gangly fool, all legs and no co-ordination as he is only 6 months old. But goodness he could jump (w00t) . Star had a great time floozing and chasing with him. :huggles: Your BHT looks far more regal

Fern looks like a whippy to me :clown: What is she ? :b

I refer to the whippets as pesky's because I think that's how Tally thinks of them. :) They have no respect for him. They will steal the food out of his mouth if he leaves any dangling ie slices of bread. They hover around and dash in and steal any crumbs of biscuit that drop from his mouth when he's eating them. ie Bonio's and shapes.

Whippet puppies jump on him, bite his nose and generally pull at his facial hair. What does he do about it? Well he does growl and warn them which occasionally they bother to listen to. But most of the time he treats them with gentle care. I was warned not to let him free run with them as the difference in size can cause great injuries. But he's so careful that I've seen him fall over so that he doesn't stamp on them or kick them. So I trust him to avoid them.

Fern is a whippet x beddie. Well that's what I was told. At 23" at the shoulder there's something bigger in her mix. Her mum and the brother that I saw were both very rough coated.

Bless Tally - a real gentle giant.

We might have gone to the hill sprint and raced him if he'd run with other deerhounds but he won't he's scared of them. :b

He chases a lure wonderfully. But only in straight lines. Won't even go around a bend. So can't get the hang of lure coursing even on his own. He stops once it's not going in a straight line. :b

We went up to Lodge Park and went deerhound racing - supposed to be mock deer coursing and he lay down and went to sleep before the slips. Oh and in the deerhound parade he went all - I'm at a show - so kept trying to leg it and was a right pain. Can't show the bugger at all he just won't do it.

Anyway at Lodge Park he did run but kept a very respectful distance behind the other dog. Never put his head down at all and cantered.

Then at lure coursing we tried him in the deerhound fun run at the end. Once let go they all ran off chasing the lure and Tally went hard right and into the carpark. :b Much to Dessie and Millie's great delight. Lots of laughing people. :b

Then he spotted something moving on the far side of the field so ran off to intercept only to find out that the something moving was 9 or 10 deerhounds who were now running straight at him. (w00t) (w00t)

So he legged it and one chased him and caught up with him (there was a fence). And he went all I'm very, very small and not a threat to you. Which is ridiculous because the deerhounds weren't going to duff him up or anything.

This is the dog who ran up to two Rott's and tried to course one into the River Wye by nipping it on it's bum every time he caught up with her. Never worked out how his one or two brain cells function.

Thank you for sharing some of Tally's finer moments - I have not laughed so much for ages.

Please bring him to the Hill Sprint anyway -it would be nice to meet him. (I promise not to laugh to his face!)

We won't be at the hill sprint I'm afraid. We are going racing somewhere. Probably West Somerset. You know the place just down the road from where you live. ;)

However we will be at South Cotswolds at some point and also at lure coursing if the BSFA hold it at Westonbirt. If you're there we might even try Tally yet again.

I've had a thought. If lots of people (who he knows) stand at the rollers and call him perhaps we'll get around the course that way. :b

However you simply must see him run down a whippet racing track first just so you know that he will chase a lure. (It's a bit like watching an enormous hairy whippet running in slow motion). :b

How come I missed this thread, oh I know I've been wrapped up in puppy land, :huggles:

those pics are fab beejay BHT looks so regal watching the world go by he sounds a real character too, they are all

Did I mention that the BHT is terrified of fly's?

Yeh one little buzz and he panics and bolts. :b

>oh I know I've been wrapped up in puppy land,

Nice place to be.
