Having spoken to you John I think I will wait for Shanes Castle. We`ll take them on with Ernie. Promise you he will test them ! Gave him a spin around Longford on Wednesday and was very impressed with the way he ran. Going well up my gallop at home as well.
Looking forward to hear how he gets on at Shanes Castle in June. He is a little belter and i can imagine him darting around Longford

Good Luck to all those going to Ballywalter

If you don't want to wait for Shane's Castle, what about Moira at the end of May?

I'm otherwise occupied both May weekends (music and hillwalking), but what about Evie and her Jack Russell? 50 yards might be okay for the wee short legs?

Lol, I have visions now of Macha prancing along hilltops singing "The Hill are alive with the sound of music" Julie Andrews stylie only with dogs instead of kids of course. :p

I was considering bringing Archie along to this one. But having had him puke in the car on the last few wee trips out, might not be such a good idea since I'd be travelling by bus and for much longer. Other passengers may not approve (or Archie for that matter).

If there's any three legged races Willow could go.

are you coming to moira game fair then..or maybe..shanes castle..? both are better than ballywalter. i prefer moira to shanes castle...its a bit over-rated bit does have a good race track where lengths concerned. but the shows arse !

I expect to "catch up with you" at Randalstown this year. For the whippets, a course of 150-200 yards is preferred, anything longer and they may lose ground to the other dogs. I think Martin has a non-ped whippet and the good ones are considerably faster than the pedigree whippets (like mine), may come in 15 to 20 yards ahead on a 150 course!

why not canvas the gamefairs, John, so maybe your club can do the race organising in 2008 or at least in 2009?

have you thought of more divisions (under 21 in, over 25 in, veterans small and large - if enough dogs are coming to the meets) and using shorter courses for the smaller dogs and/or using a handicap system as is done in whippet racing?

My advice to anyone travelling over would be to wait until Shanes Castle especially if they are interested in racing. I have only raced at Moira once and it was probbably around 100 yards and the ground was very rough although it might have changed since then.

Make sure its June or July then Geoff, and i'll introduce you to my other passion,ie,the art of Flyfishing for fresh run Salmon.Think whippet racing gives you a buzz.Hook a 5 or 6 lb er,on a single handed rod,and the adrenalin rush is unreal. But if youre not interested in catching you're own,i will certainly get one or two for you, what ever time you decide to come over.Nothing beats a bit of fresh Salmon. And from the way i seen it go,at Chatsworth one year, the English people love it.So do my dog's.And with the rain we are getting at the moment ,wont be long till they're here. Its absolutely pouring down all day.Hurray for soft ground.

and our usual 252 yds for the dogs who want to run the maximum weve got ! its gonna be a racearama !!! macha theres no reason why any under 23 needs a shorter course than 252 like the overs . theres no game fair in england that runs 2 different distances to suit unders and overs. youre creating to many parameters here with unders overs vetereans big vets small, handicapping etc.. terriers run shorter tracks as do the pups..end of .. unders and overs run same distance all over the uk.

handicapping among peds is fine again this standard practice in the uk. what you have to remember the main game fairs in england run tracks that are atleast 350-400yds. ours is shorter than most as it is !

"you can please some of the people some of the time..but not all of the people all of the time"

Too many races....will give you a headache and take up far too much time considering all the other events which will have to run through out the day and those who aren't interested in the racing will get too bored. If your race track is over 252 yards this is more than enough for all the types of lurcher....keep it simple one distance with just a few categories of dogs. Also you have to take into account the shows over here are much smaller in the way of entries as those across the water. All the very best with your show and from past shows that your club have organized it will be one not to be missed. Be careful what you post as when people turn up and it doesn't take place what was advertised people will moan and grumble......i'm not getting at you nor trying to critisize but trying to give you sound advice.

From past show's you have organised,it will be one not to be missed. Can i just 2nd that. ...Billy...
