Hoping this hasn't been posted before so apologies in advance if it has...
My query is how do you chose your dogs names?
As I work in rescue I have never chosen the name of a dog here, mainly due to not wanting to confuse them more after all ready being abandoned....
So all of the dogs here have names before coming to me.
( niko especially reminds my of calling a Italian porn star to heel )
So, how do you decide?
Character? Appearance?

You know Italian porn stars by name?



We chose Jasper's name because I quite liked 'real' names for dogs but my son wasn't keen on most 'real' names. The two we both liked were Jasper and Toby. There were two males available in the litter we went to see, and we agreed one seemed like a Jasper and the other seemed like a Toby. Now, which of those two names sounds like someone who's cute and friendly, and which sounds like someone who could be a bit troublesome & prickly? Looking back, I often wonder whether life would have been different if we'd chosen the dog who looked like a Toby!

No, I don't personally know any porn stars! But I always feel I put on a accent for him haha , (I know, I'm weird and slightly eccentric)
I love the name jasper!
It has far more character to it X

I don’t know how we came up with Dennis but we knew it was meant to be when the owner told us her husband who had just died was called Dennis!

Like @JudyN said - I reckon they definitely grow into their name!

Jimmy is our rescue dog and he came with that name

I've also had and have rescue dogs that came with names- though I've changed them a little if necessary, so Barney became Bernie because I've had a Barney in the past. Rickey was Lickey when he arrived (nuff said!).
I do like people names for dogs because I feel that's treating them with more respect than names like Dash or Rawhide (I've come across both). To me dog owners can be surprisingly unimaginative: living close to me there's a pure white poodle called Sooty and a white wheaten terrier called Fudge. AND a friend's grandmother always had golden spaniel bitches and they were always called Jill.
