Had a traumatic weekend, OH was out walking Macy and Lola at a place we rarely use. Both dogs go tearing past him out of sight and then he heard a yelp, he caught up with them and Macy was just standing still with blood pouring out of her chest. She had run into a rusty metal rod. Unfortunately he didnt have his phone or the car so had to carry her and got to a new housing estate and asked the nice lady in the sales office to ring me and she also rang the vets.

This happened about 11am and we had to leave her there and got a call to pick her back up at 2.30 the same day. She was fine but a really nasty gash but luckily nothing serious. She has a huge V shaped wound all stictched up. My OH was sooooo upset cos she is his little baby darling!!!

Anyhow she has been fine in herself all week and it has been really hard keeping her quiet and also keeping Lola away from Macy's wound. But today I left them for couple of hours as I had to go to work - got to to pay the vets bill!!!! When I came home I was'nt happy with the wound it looked as if the skin had died. Managed to get her to the vets and sure enough it hasnt healed and he had to cut away all the dead skin. She was so good not a yelp or a whimper. We've got to clean the wound and give her more anti biotics and see how she goes - she may have to have it stitched up again. :( But it is so disgusting to look at its put me off my dinner!!! Don't know how I'm going to clean it :(

Oh gosh, that does sound horrible, I'm so sorry your poor girlie has had such an accident, it's so upsetting to see them with gashes isn't it?

If you're squeamish and can't clean it can the OH do it? If not, is there a friend or neighbour you trust? If all else fails I'd go to the surgery and get the vet nurse to do it for you daily

In this house, Nurse Oliver would lick it and keep it clean. :x It was only 'cos he was doing that this morning that I realised Albie had a small cut on his knee! (w00t)

Sounds nasty, so I hope it heals well and quickly. :huggles:

:( god thats awful! poor thing! its terrible, leaving metal in more rural spaces. glad jabs are up to date. my girl did something similar once. ran headlong into a barbed wire fence. she walked under it before, so no one noticed it as we were in woods, but as she ran back, the added height from her bouncing meant she caught it at neck height. worse, as she hadnt noticed it either, she ran straight into it again. luckily there were only superficial wounds, but 18mts on, she still has these hideous scars on her throat :(

all my love and kisses to the wounded soldier, and :luck: for a speedy recovery :luck:

:( that sounds really nasty, poor thing

my girl rose is a pain when it comes to cleaning wounds, she gets quite deffensive, so i use a fine mister/spray to saturate the area that needs cleaning first, rather than going straight in with the soggy pads to clean it, might help if you are a bit squeemish about touching the sore area at first,

hope she is better soon :luck: :luck: :luck:

i just use an ordinary mister/spray filled with whatever i'm cleaning the wounds with, eg mild saline or hibiscrub solution usually

:huggles: Poor girl hope she's feeling better soon. :huggles:
