ive had many dogs in the past and non have been affected by nettles before, but my two whippets today ran in a grassy area because they saw loads of rabbits, the grass was very long and when they was coming back towards us they was treading really careful, and was reluctant to put their back legs down, thats when i noticed the nettles.

we got them in the car and they both was biting furiously at their feet ,so we got dock leafs but didnt make any difference, tried water to cool them, still no difference.

poor little loves, there fine now,and just wondered if anyone else as had a problem with nettles.

ive had the problem with young dogs i put bi/carb on there feet lol

Ouch, nettle stings are so horrible, Annie gets stung really easily.

Not nice to see her flicking her back legs around and biting at her feet because of the stings. Because the hair on her feet and legs is so short, it leaves her skin with little protection against any stinging plant.

I have to be so careful where I take her for walks now, trying to take routes where we know she won't encounter nettles.

If we come across nettles now we have to carry her till we are past them.

i will be looking out for nettles in future.

I haven't had a problem with nettles - although I will look out for them now, but yesterday at the allotment Tiny got bitten by insects and he kept jumping up in the air! :- " I use savlon spray for that - don't know if it would work for nettles?!

For weeks now I've been wondering why Scrumpy keeps chewing at her feet & whining after a walk in the park. How thick am I??? It's nettles isn't it????

Even though I've not known what caused it I've been spraying her feet with Aloe Vera and it seems to ease it for her.

Will try to avoid the big patches of nettles from now on :- "

Thanks for enlightening me..... BAD MUMMY :(

Lottie gor nettled on friday night, but a anthistamine tablet from the chemist does the trick

im just as bad because mine have been chewing there feet for weeks on and off and i have not put two and two together until just seeing your words.

i must be losing it . least we have found out now what the cause is. thanks J.T

I would forget the antihistamine tablets but stand them in cold water for as long as they will take it, don't rub their feet dry though because touching them will make it itch again!! Or, if you are into homoeopathic remedies, Urticaria. 1 tablet as soon as you can and then 1 tablet every half hour until the itching subsides.

Funny this topic is on here - our new whippet Thomas jsut managed to sting himself all over his legs :( - the homoepathic Urtica 30C is used for all rashes, stings etc etc. He's stopped breakdancing now

I find the nettles are at their worst just as they pop through the ground - new shoots - ouch ouch. these seem to do the most damage when my two run through them. :( and they come out hopping around (w00t)

I'd go with the homeopathic remedy cos over the counter human anti histamines can be too strong for dogs...you can get a lower dose one from the vet if necessary tho

HELEN CAN WE BUY THEM OVER THE COUNTER AT THE VETS OR WILL WE HAVE TO SEE BRENDAN FIRST.

You might have to see Brendan first cos its something new happening to the girls...I'd phone up and ask first though.

Make a note of the remedy and tell them its cos they get stung by nettles alot and see what they say.

I'm off to the puppy party Thursday I can ask him if you want???
