We are in the middle of bringing our house out of its 1970's timewarp and are knocking a few walls down, we have to have new carpet and I wondered if anyone has recently gone through this and has a tip or two about what type of carpet is good for a doggy household. Our present carpet has been in-situ for 28 years and still looks very well and I'm sorry to have to lose it but it has to be. My first visit to the carpet shop left me not knowing if I was coming or going.

Sparky does look lovely emulsioned (w00t) , and those who know me well will not be surprised to know that one of the colours I have chosen is called Soft Fawn

That's a great site Hely, many thanks. I've already seen a couple I like the look of.

You are clever.

We've got the berber (looped thread), speckled type. Hides the bits that Stanley keeps bringing in on his legs. I think we should have gone for a more yellowy shade to hide those occasional vomit patches though. :- " I've heard on the grapevine that the natural coir carpets are a devil to keep clean.

TBH I wish we'd gone for laminate or wood effect lino (you can get some really nice ones!) flooring in the living room & carpet for the rest of the house to keep the noise down and for insulation. It would have been a lot easier with dogs.

I can't really give any advice as we've got Rhinofloor vinyl in the kitchen, and a wood laminate for the rest of the downstairs. We only have carpet on the stairs and in the bedrooms. I don't think I would ever have carpet again downstairs as over the years there have been many doggie accidents. :- " :- "

My brother used to have a 100% man-made carpet in their lounge, and he said it was easy to clean and you could even bleach it. However, he now has a real wood floor (really gorgeous).

Hope you find one you like. :luck: I really hate having to make big decisions like this as if you get it wrong you have to live with it for so long.

we have wood effect lino in both dining room and front room after years of shampooing vomit etc from carpets. lino has large rugs in centre of room to hide it a bit but it looks good and is so easy to clean and disinfect, wish we'd done it years ago.

i know a few people have raised their eyebrows about the lino in the front room but the large rug is easy enough to replace if it gets puked upon and after all my home is for my dogs and not for other people. :b

i really want to put lino down in the living room, but OH says its for kitchens and bathrooms  so for the mean time we have 3 vax's and shampoo most days :(

have a look at this katie its brilliant stuff but quiet expensive here?

and i hope you find what you are looking for jenny i love shopping for the house does anyone want a personal assistant

Have you thought about wood? We have parquet downstairs with carpet on stairs and bedrooms.

Wood lasts a lifetime, and to be honest isn't an awful lot more money than a really good carpet. You can resand and seal it..... reclaimed stuff is environmentally friendly too :- "

We have laminate in the kitchen and sitting room (with a huge rug) but a sort of 'fawn' berber in the hall and upstairs through to bedrooms - fawn with a fleck in it so little 'bits' don't show! :D

Yes, I admit, I colour matched my carpet to my dog, how sad (but practical) is that?
