Hi all. I have just came across this whippet site and am hopeful that i can make contacts with others who share a love of this wonderful breed. My little boy, Murphy, is just 10 weeks old at the moment and is a real joy to own. Already he is developing his own personality and has made himself completely at home. I would be interested in trying him at a few races when he is old enough, he loves racing around my gardens!

I may possibly show him in the future , time permitting. He is fawn with white trim and totally adorable. I will attempt to add some photos later. Anyone out there who can give me any tips or advice please feel free. Thank you

PS I live in Belfast!!

Hi and welcome to the forum, I look forward to seeing photos of Murphy.

Firstly, what is his breeding? Is he from show or racing stock? I’m afraid I can’t offer any advice on getting involved in racing, but if you would like to try showing, I would suggest getting in touch with Murphy’s breeder first of all for any advice and then when he is fully vaccinated have a look for a local ringcraft club – hopefully someone will be able to recommend one local to you.

You may wish to go along and watch the whippets at NIWC champ show and also Belfast General champ show, which are being held at the end of the month. There will be lots of whippets there and people are always happy to talk whippet.

Hi and Welcome, Im in County Durham and my latest addition is 10 weeks old too.

look forward to some pictures of your pup.

Hi and welcome

I am sure you will find k9 really useful and make lots of contacts in you area.

thanks to all of you. He is Collooney and although bought as a pet i think he well may have show potential. i did show whippets in my childhood but am obviously rusty now that Im 43!! hopefully, if i go along to belfast champ show I can pick up a few pointers there.

I'm sure Viv and Claire will be able to give you plenty of advice and that you'll see plenty of his Collooney rellies at Belfast!

your best bet for racing is the Sporting Whippet Club which meets in Antrim once a month from Apr thru Sept. The last meet just passed, but they are talking of some training sessions over the winter. anyway, Murphy is too young for that! Many of the dogs racing in Northern Ireland are showbred and a couple of Collooney dogs have done very well at racing.

If you are interested in showing, don't miss the chance to see >100 whippets on show in Belfast and Comber 24&25 Sept

The Sat is an all-breed show at Kings Hall, Balmoral and Sun is the NI kennels (Barnesmore, Rushden, Mossbawnhill,Gwendariff) will know details.

the show in Comber is in the community centre on the main street, easy to find. I think judging starts 11 am.

There are less than 100 entries in the Belfast show, but the Sept weekend is still your best chance of seeing so many whippets at show in Ireland.

Welcome to K9, we are all one big happy family on this site, and all brilliant breeders and proud owners and the nicest people in the world. We live in Portadown Co Armagh Northern Ireland and travel North and South of Ireland to all the shows. We have been going to shows now for many many years and have made many wonderful friends, and have had many winners. Nice to speak to you on K9 and you are very welcome again.
