Hi guys,

Looking for some advice on 'next door's cat'! Im not a cat person and have never owned one. DOn't dislike them but just never got round to owning one.

My new neighbours bought a kitten and its a sweet little thing, BUT, it keeps trying to come into my house. I swear it thinks it lives at my house and not next door! Personally, I think it spends way too much time on its own because they are always going out. I have never fed it or given it much attention because I don't want to encourage it into our house where my 3 legged staffie would be only too pleased to give it a run for its money!

What can I do? For one thing its always digging up my newly planted plants and then tried to dart into my door every time I open it! I don't want to be mean to it but I can't have it in my house because I'm afraid of what Arnie will do.

Any suggestions? Oh, and I tried telling my neighbours (who stood and watched it walk into my house) but they just laughed!!!!

HELP! :)

get yourself a water pistol sarah im afraid you are going to have to be cruel to be kind a few squirts with that and it wont bother you im so lucky where i am as our neighbours arent close so max is quiet safe failing that i think you might have to let arnie chase it out of the garden ;)

LOL! I'm not worried about him chasing out of the garden, more worried about it coming in and him chasing it around the house!

Is it illegal to own a water pistol these days?!?! :D

eather a water pisstol or get some old tins and throw them to make scary noises to scare it of its the only way. if its didgging up your plants ist ususing your garden as its loo and i know it sonds horred but your dogs probaly eating it :x so make sure hes upto date with his wormers allso his flea treetemns as cats carry them.. or have a word with the nabour to make sure the cats up to date with everything

Oh dear! That's cats for you, Sarah

My neighbour and I have 4 between us (2 each) and mine go through her catflap and help themselves to her cats' food, whereas her cats sun themselves in my front garden (whippet-free area) and bring me presents every day (dead mice, voles etc  )

Before I had the whippets, her cats used to come into my house too.

The water pistol is a good idea but it will take time to "train" him and cats like to live dangerously anyway (hence the saying "curiosity killed the cat" )

Is he being shut out of his own home all day? This could be why he is gravitating towards you, in which case his owners need to install a cat flap so that he can go indoors when he wants to. Cats do like company, they live in groups in a feral situation so he is probably lonely too :( - maybe he could be the new companion for Arnie? :-

i had the same problem with next doors cat......so i went round to explain what i had planned and if he didnt want me to do it then it was very likely his cat would end up in my dogs stomach :- .....he told me to go ahead ;)

i lay in wait to little bugger and when it got to the back door i put the hose pipe (on full blast) on it.......it has never come back.....Job done :D

My water pistol skills are severely lacking...I can't manage to get the little bugger! :)

So, I figure its exercise for Arnie and the cat seems quick enough...For now!

Bet you'll find them curled up on the sofa together one day!!! :D
