Just wondering why there was only one sample tested at the bend championships?

Having paid an extra £10 on top of my membership fee, I feel I have a perfect right to ask this question.

How many samples were taken, and which dogs?

Geoff

all the info you require is on the NNWRF forum

YOU JUST KNOW WHERE THIS POST IS GOING A LOAD OF NEGATIVE COMMENTS TO WHIPPET RACING IN GENERAL .WHY NOT GIVE IT A REST THIS IS DRIVING PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE SPORT. WE HAVE DEVON.SCOTLAND AND SOME GREAT WEEKENDS TO LOOK FORWARD TOO DOESNT MATTER WHO ORGANISES THEM.THIS WILL ONLY PUT A DAMPER ON A GREAT DAYS RACING AND DISCREDIT SOME WORTHY CHAMPIONS

hopefully everyone gets together to strive forward making this sport great again

:) As I'm coming into this sport next year can someone tell me (who decides what dogs should be tested, and why???) when i say why, i mean Why those certain dogs or is it just random dogs on the day. Diane,

Anyone can test my dogs anytime, :p but don't ask me for a sample.

Very boring if it turns into yet another slanging match totally agree, but on the other hand not the best advert for drug testing when only 1 is actually sent away for testing.

On a constructive note maybe ALL champions should give a sample (then draw from the ones that there is sufficient urine to be tested) and then maybe there would be enough samples for a decent amount to be sent away for testing.

People couldn't complain at paying extra if it was seen to be happening with a more positive outcome, i realise this would prob be more expense if we needed a vetinerary nurse there longer (with gloves preferably :- " ) :) :)

Dogs are picked at random not entirely sure who actually does the picking.

It used to be all the supremes were tested and a couple random champs but i dont think this is still the case

I know that roxy was tested last champs..................i thought that last year it was all champs that were tested? Cant remember, will have a look back. Must admit that my understanding was that there were only recently crowned champs tested at the champs? Havent got time to look cos I'm at work, but am sure someone else could clarify it.

All off topic / non constructive posts removed, however my personal opinion is to let this topic run and keep an eye on it, for the likes of Diane who's new to racing she might learn something from it.

With regards to your idea Karen, i think it's spot on, there would of course have to be extra money added on to our memberships and extra time allocated to gain all the samples but it would be one way of back up, in that we could always guarantee there were sufficient tests being sent away to make drug testing worth doing.

Not everyone thinks drug testing should be done, but if it's done correctly i am all for it with any organisation not just the NNWRF

No complaints from me Vicky

I've edited as i see fit Gary on posts i feel are not relevant to the topic.

Cannot be doing with all the personal digs at the moment no matter who they're from and i don't feel i should be having to justify something that's so obvious.

As i said above, people obviously have valid comments on drug testing so i dont see why they should be removed?

From what I remember all the above dogs were champs last year, so it does seem that last year anyway, the thought might have gone into testing those dogs that proved themselves to be among the best, cant remember who the other supreme was tho. Dont know if the thought was any different this year.

I can also remember last year tellng the vet that they had to seal the sample after it had been processed, otherwise it could be tampered with, and they didn't seem that bothered. Maybe they werent fully aware of the implications, whereas if it's your dog you take a little more notice.

If as members we pay £10 towards drug testing then I think we deserve a bit better service from the vets, and also a higher percentage of drug tests being carried out sucessfully. I presume that even if they weren't sucessful payment would still have to be made.

Think it would be a universal problem with drug testing in whippet racing tho. Perhaps the answer is to keep on with it, but let the vet choose the race meetings they attend and choose which dogs to test randomly ( might take some working out initially, but it's not impossible), then it might make it as fair and equitable as it could ever be, without creating difficulties for those on the committees that have to police it so to speak.
